I know this is pretty much a dodge, ford, or chevy argument, but I'm looking for some opinions. I've decided on 30-06, and am going to spend about $800. I really like the tikka's and really really like the T3 hunter stainless. What would you buy in this price range?

you already picked up a model that suits you, why change? tikka is great. (unless you drink tea with a raised finger)

There are some really nice Husky .30-06's at Tradex for less than that. They are all steel too.

Nice, it seems like most people like the Tikka's except for the haters who don't like the plastic components. Does anyone know if the Hunter Stainless is any different from the T3 lite besides the weight?

Does $800 includes the cost of the optic?

No, this is $800 for rifle only based on new prices. Would hope the same rifle $800 new would be about $650 used. Other guns I was considering are the M77, Vanguard, and the x-bolt.

I would pick up a Rem 700 Camo/Stainless with DM for $699. If you must have a T3, I'd go laminate/stainless over the wood.

^ why would you go laminate/stainless over wood?

More durable, not marked as easily, and less temperature/moisture sensitive. Plus, they look better. I had a T3 Hunter with the wood stock, and it marked easily.

(I'd still get the 700 over the T3) :)

the tikka in laminate (glossy), with the stanless looks VERY nice.i was going to pick on up in 300wsm,but the way the recoil lug set up on the tikka doesnt sit well with me and being a mag...welll...
i have one 7mm-08 in blue syn,and the thing is a dream to shoot and the aluminum recoil block does show a little wear and tear with about 100 rounds of 154gr's.

I have a Ruger Mk-II stainless in 30-06 as my general hunting rifle. Its a solid gun. Control round fed and definately over engineered.

I also have a vanguard that I really like. But the action isnt as smooth and the stock trigger is as close to terrible as you can get.

i had the same dilemma but i went with the vanguard in laminate/stainless the gun fit me better and it was about 150 bucks cheaper than the tikka too. but its not as light once you get optics mounted on it
