Yup that there is the big bang theory hahaha
Whats your budget? Any calibers in mind?

Sti gp6 for my money......9mm, Light, super reliable, easy strip, great trigger, da/sa and shoots great out of the box......... And a little different........Love mine
Import

Jp, I am not a 1911 fan, however Smith makes a compact that shoots beautifully and it would really compliment a smith wheel gun. Go with 357 wheel gun as you can load tame loads of 38 for the kids. Semi in 45. If you want accuracy find a performance center smith and wesson and load it with wadcutters. You will be happy. Very happy.

If I was buying I would be buying an hk45 and colt python....the end.

Guns to buy:

A proper 1911 in .45 ACP - STI Trojan
A .38/.357 revolver - Smith & Wesson 686
A "tactical" 9mm - Glock 17
A rimfire practice gun - Ruger .22/45

That's a well-rounded collection, and you can switch up models if you want, maybe a Kimber .45, Ruger .357, S&W 9mm, and a Beretta .22 - that would work brilliant as well. You might be able to fit 3 of them within your budget and they're all fairly quality arms.

Then save for a .40S&W and a .44 Mag :)

Great list in my opinion but drop the Glock and go with a CZ 75, same grip angle as the 1911 so one less thing to teach yourself.

Another vote for S&W wheel gun, and a Sig 226 9mm, something with a SRT option and Sig night sights, target sites even better.

I have the Sig Platinum Elite in 9mm and love it, my favourite gun.

The 686 seem to be the one to get in the wheel gun and the Sig seem to be a prefered one, this is starting to be like a good combo... JP.

G17 or CZ in 9mm are hard to beat...

lots of parts, easy to shoot, and very reliable.

for a wheelgun can't beat S&W 686!

It's hard to tell someone what the best combo of guns to buy is. If I had $2500 burning a hole in my pocket. I would, without question, buy a Wilson combat 1911.
