Do the short action (.243/.308 Win) Zastava M98s use shorter followers and and a block or filler of some sort in the magazine box? Do they use a bolt stop to limit bolt travel?

Thanks.

My Charles Daly .243 (Zastava 98) had a stamped steel block riveted/welded into the mag box ( I can't remember now as I removed it when I had it rechambered to 6mm-06AI) and a short follower. There was nothing to limit bolt travel.

Lol...great minds think alike! Except I was thinking of the non-AI version. What kind of performance are you getting out of it? Did you just rechamber it, or did you swap out the barrel?

The regular 6mm-06 was my first choice as well, but Epps Sporting Goods had the AI reamer on hand, so I went with that. The original barrel was rechambered, and I installed a regular follower. Feeding is perfect. I know the 22" factory barrel isn't ideal for a cartridge like the 6mm-06AI, but it shoots sub moa.

I have only tried two different loads so far using 100gr Hornady's and haven't run them over a chrony yet. Velocity should be decent as I have been using .240 Wby max loads as a start, then going up two more grains. These seem pretty mild yet. I plan on doing a bit more load development using the 85gr TSX. Should be a great antelope gun if i ever get drawn for a tag.

you won't rechamber a 243 to 6-06 without setting it back at least 3/8".

The AI version will clean up without setback.

You could also go to a 6mm-284 without barrel setback.

Why? I can see the potential issue with the 6mm Rem...but with the 6mm-06?

My guess, the .243 shoulder is wider than the '06 case is at the 1.804" mark (the length where the .243 shoulder is). Set back cleans it up, or AI straightens the walls and cleans it up.
