Short and relatively long range scope (rimfire)

I would shy away from the Bushnell scopes due to their warranty, or lack there of and long turn around time.

I stopped at Wholesale to look at scopes yesterday. Initially I was looking at the Bushnell Elite 4200 4-16x40AO and the Leupold VX-II 4-12x40AO. Then I ended up looking at the Elite 6500 2.5-16x42mmMD. I thought I remembered him saying that the 4200 was $499 and then that the 6500 was $599. I got him to put it on hold and called back today to tell him I finally made up my mind. I checked the price with him to be sure we were talking about the same scope and I must have misheard him yesterday because it is actually $699. :( I finally had my mind made up but now that it's another $100 it's back to the drawing boards. For most toys I would say the search is half the fun, but in the case of scope shopping I think I would only call it a quarter of the fun.

I bought the Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x42MD. I couldn't justify settling for a few features I didn't want just to save a little coin. I was looking for something with side focus, AO from 10y and up, magnification of 14X or more, objective lens around 40mm, mil dot reticle, matte finish, and bright glass. Maybe I'll find out if all the talk about warranty issues is all it's cracked up to be.

So far I have no regrets. It's getting mounted right now so hopefully I'll have a range report in the next day or two.

Excellent choice Evan, you will be more than happy with your decision!
Now all you have to do is put up with the Leopold people who think their broken scopes get fixed with great service as well as the people who are accustomed to transferring 2nd hand reports on the old way Bushnell used to handle warranty service.
You bought a top notch scope, enjoy it and don't worry about warranties, those are for people with scopes that don't work.:)
It is a new era of optics, and you sir are on top of the pile.
I know you had a lot to consider in your purchase, I will dig up the Butler Creek cap sizes and send them off in a PM, if you need help locating some or funding them let me know and I will be glad to help. You made a wise choice, just wait until it gets dark outside, it's like looking down the end of a flashlight.
Life is good, you just made it easier to see.

Thanks David. You seem to have a lot of first hand experience which is what makes these forums valuable.

I dropped the rifle and scope off at Saskatoon Gunsmith Shoppe at 10am for mounting and bore sighting and when I stopped back at 11:30am it was ready to go. It's too bad today is Wednesday because tonight is IPSC and I might not have any time to play.

I have a Weaver T24 that I use form 25-200yrds without issue the adjustable objective really helps with clarity and allows me and the new shooters I bring out to see were the bullet hit.
If you don't want a fixed 24x try looking at 6x24 they cover a wide range of situations for what you want to do.

I didn't realize you were in that price range. Like Eagleyes I've gone with the Leupold EFR 6.5-20x 40mm on my upper end rimfires. I have two of them. Both are excellent on high end rimfires. Plus their dimensions look good, since they are a 1 inch tube and not too long.

I'll be giving the Falcon a try on the lower end rimfires, like my Ruger 10/22 target.

What about a Bushnell Banner 4-12x40 AO? They're only about $105 and seem like they might be good for rimfire at various ranges. Anybody used one?
