I kind of want to make one but I want to do it legally how would I get it reclassed if I throw a shorter barrel on it and a buttler creek folding stock?

Try doing a search on here. Its been covered many times and their is alot of info on it.
Basicaly the overal length of the firearm from back to front has to be 26 inches or greater.

But if its smaller wouldnt that just make it restricted.. I did search allot of people just say nope cant do it

and for the charger idea I was thinking about that but I wasnt sure if it would fit into the stock..

ands its a pistal so its limited to 10 rds..

In the configuration you mentioned it would be restricted, but the mags don't have to be limited to 10 rounds, they are for a .22 rifle, no limit, you can use a 50 round drum if you want to.

the charger is classed as a pistal so dont want to go through the hassel of is it legal or not.. I rather just convert a 10/22 to what ever length I want and make it restricted but I was wondering would it be legal or not and what rules I have to follow..

The Evil Firearms Center once sent me an angry letter because I had a CX4 that had magazines with the word "CX4" stamped on it.
They said, a magazine is legal or illegal based on the firearm it is designed to be used in rather then the firearm it is actually used in. So my Beretta 92 mags could legally hold 10 rounds in the CX4 but the mags that were labled CX4 had to be pinned to 5.

Basicly even if the charger is classed as a pistol, you can use high capacity magazines from the 10/22 because they are "legal or illegal based on the firearm they are designed to be used in not the firearm they are actually used in".

The law doesn't have to make sense.... it just is.

my 10/22 with 18.5" sporter barrel is less than 26" from back of receiver to end of barrel. A folding stock has to add length behind the receiver to keep it legal with the stock barrel. you could make up for it with a flash hider, compensater, w.h.y. on a threaded short barrel.

Flash hiders, even welded on does not count towards OAL anymore.
A 10/22 with a bc folding stock is 27" OAL when folded with a 18.5" barrel.
Non-restricted. You measure from the tip of the barrel to the farthest point on the stock when it's collapsed, which is the folding mechanism.

 Wow, I did not know that. Thats good to know. I would like to put a 12" sporter contour barrel on mine with factory stock and a flash hider for looks, but was also thinking about doing the same with a folding stock. not anymore...

Doesn't that only apply when measuring barrel length for reg purposes?
You may be right, I'll try emailing the cfc for their answer.(which may be correct or not, who knows)

I still think a 10/22 with a folding stock that puts the oal under 26" when folded is restricted, not prohib. If I had a 16" barrel still, I would do it.

Very true, I'm trying to make my build over 26".

I'm still wondering about what happens if just the action without the stock is under 26" ie. traveling with the components in a backpack.

i want a barrel that just goes over the legnth of the stok a little bit I want to do it basicly for looks but I was wondering how would you get it classed I know you can do it though but they have to see it..

for the m1 I know someone that bought a longer barrel made it unrestricted went hmm I like the old look better and put the shorter orginal barrel back on and had it put back as restricted..

yes but I want to have it fold too... I dont care if its restricted or non restricted I just dont want to break any laws doing it.. I know a guy that can get me any barrel length I want with what ever twist I want and made out of what I want.. I just want to do it 100 percent legally... so if I say bought all the parts then threw it together would I have to call and change or do I do that befor I change it..
