Hi all,
This may be more of a legal/gunsmithing question but I figured I'd start here...
There is little aftermarket support for the Remington 597 and almost nothing in the way of barrels (particularly sort ones) that I'm aware of.
How does one go about acquiring a legal sub-12" barrel for a 597 and still keep it non-restricted? What comprises and defines a "manufactured" barrel as opposed to a modified barrel?
If one were to have a 12" barrel blank chambered, an extractor slot cut, and stamped to identify it as a 597 barrel would that qualify it as a "legal barrel"?
There would still be the issue of mounting the barrel but has the requirement been satisfied that is is a short, manufactured barrel for a 597?
I am fully capable of fabricating the full assembly myself but am not legally a manufacturer... how to make it happen...
I anxiously await your "Go buy a 10/22 and a sort barrel..." responses
