Hi guys,

I am planning to have my Nork M14 barrel cut short to make a cool looking rifle.
I know many GNZs have go through that mod.

However, would that affect the function of the rifle? Is there still enough pressure to push the bolt carrier back?

Thanks,

Michael

My MK14s have 18.0" barrels and standard gas systems... they function 100%.
16.0" barrels require a little tweaking on the gas port or the new SOCOM gas plug from SEI.

Be aware that if you have the barrel cut to 18" or less it will become a restricted firearm. The limit is about 18.5".
Any gunsmith that does this sort of work will know this, but it is worth your while to check on it.

I had mine done and was going to go 18 1/8" like i have in the past, but it actually looked better balanced at around 18 3/4"-19 " any way, i had a regular blade front site mounted that worked with the rear aperture sight, so now i have a walnut stocked, scoped rifle that will still permit the use of the iron sights. It make a very sweet hunting rifle, there is very little loss of velocity with the slight shortening and the rifle is very compact with out the extra barrel length and the flash arrester.

That first length would make a restricted rifle...I'd stick with the 18 3/4" length myself...why limit the rifle to approved ranges only?

For what it's worth, I have read more than a few times that a 20" barrel is the ideal length for the general purpose M14.
