Short barrel on virgin reciever issues

OK, so we all know you can not remanufacture a longer barrel into a sub 18 inch tube and still stay non-restricted.

What's your take on installing a remanufactured barrel onto a virgin reciever?

To be specific, is there any reason I can't lathe down a 10/22 barrel, then import and verify a virgin reciever as having a 8 inch or whatever barrel and an OAL over 26 inches?

The last time I looked at the laws - you could not do it...... that was a few years ago.

There is a difference between manufacturing a barrel and altering a premade barrel....... and the licenses required are different as well.

You should probably obtain a copy of the present criminal code.....?

Ruger won't sell you just an action. However, they do sell a 10/22 with a 16 1/8" that's 34" long.
