Short barrel rimfire - update registration certificate?

We've seen a lot of custom 10/22's of the years and almost all of them went from an 18" barrel to 16" or less yet only one person commented that they contacted the CFC so I wouldn't say there is a lot of worry about this issue. The owners of those rifles know that they are legal. If the CFC can't or won't issue a proper registration certificate however, it might be worthwhile to bring to the attention of the CSSA, Stockwell Day, and Garry Breitkreuz.

Unless you get someone who's not in a good mood and notices your registration says 470mm and over but what do you know it appears from obvious observation that the barrel is much shorter. In my opinion better off changing it on paper that way it matches and nobody can hassle you for unessecary reasons.

I asked this same question here a while ago, wondering about the barrel length printed on the reg. cert., compared the a shorter one on the gun. I called the CFC and they already had a FRT# for the 11.5" Shaw barrel, and they said that it was not necessary to update the cert., but I could update it if I wanted. When the new reg. cert. arrived, it still said 470mm or greater for the barrel length.

Just goes to show how you can count on the CFC to be "accurate"... Sounds to me like NOTHING got done despite your voicing your concerns...

Cheers
Jay
P.S. Those 11.5 inch barrels are "dead ###y"!!!:sniper:

That's dumb. I let them know of my change to my 10/22 for the purpose of it being changed on my certificate. So really if I get the same 470 or greater certificate back all they did was put it in their system that I had a modified my original rifle to a short barreled version.

Good thread. I also need this info, 'cause I recently bought a 10/22 compact (with a stock 16 1/8" barrel; so below 470mm)... but i swapped the barrel with a 11.5". OAL remains above 26" so it remains unrestricted. I haven't received my certificate yet. I'm pretty sure it won't say "below 470mm", but most probably the exact barrel lenght. Any 10/22 compact owners can confirm this ?

Well, i got my reg. cert. yesterday, for my 10/22 compact (original factory 409mm barrel)... and guess what; it's written "below 470mm" on it :dancingbanana:

So i'm OK. No need to inform the CFC of my shorty 11.5" barrel... 'cause the overall lenght keeps the rifle non-restrict & non-prohib. Yeah :)

I lost the certificate for my 10/22 so about 6 weeks ago I called the CFC to request a new one. While on the phone, I told them that I was going to swap out my 18" barrel with an 11.5" one so I'd like my new cert to reflect that change. Well, about 3 weeks ago I received my new certificate and.... you guessed it. It still said barrel length greater than 470mm.

Surprise! Today in the mail I received yet another new certificate for my 10/22 (revision .0003) and it shows "barrel length less than 470mm".
:dancingbanana:

I did and according to the tech I talked to you can reregister but you do not have to as long as the firearm stays in the same class. That said he also said that it wouldn't hurt to do it anyways but I personally don't believe in telling them anything more than I have to by law.

So basically, you don't believe anything you don't want to hear? So why did you believe the first part?:p

Ok???

So, I just called the CFC to have my cert changed to less than 470mm.
I said I am putting on a 11.5 ER Shaw barrel and she says.."So you are making it restricted?" So then we have a conversation about overall length as to which she says overall does not matter, barrel length does. I told her the barrel already has a FRT# and length is stated on the CFC website.

She sounds a little embarrassed and said " Ok.I will send this info".
I reply will my cert say less than 470mm? She says "No.it will have exact barrel length". Again,I said that it should say less than 470mm on it. Long story short, she says " I don't know, the Techs will figure it out"

FYI: At no point was I being rude or snobbish, but she was getting a little miffed at being schooled. But really, should they not know

Well, she knows now! Since you kept it civil, you probably made life easier on the next gunnut that calls in for the same thing.

What is the FRT number? ( would save me time as I have to call them as well)
