So you used two boards and laminated them together, interesting.
Would be much easier to inlet this way for those working with basic hand tools. This gives me ideas for winter projects...

Yes, routed square, then bedded with JB Weld, and epoxied steel or aluminum pillars. This is a great idea!!

I would add comb height before considering lower rings, if anything both those scopes are on the low side already.
