Has anyone cut down a non-restricted X-95? Just curious how short one could go before the handguard would be in the way. My measuring with a cleaning rod is not working too well for me as far as a solid measurement... Second question would be who to have do the work..??

Well, cutting it shorter than 18" would make it prohibited, and would vastly devalue the firearm. As for who, my guess is nobody.

I was under the impression that a smith could do this legally to a rifle. As for the value... Who cares? It's mine and isn't going anywhere. I actually have a spare barrel assembly which is why I am looking at this as a project. If it's no good then I guess I won't put any more effort into it.

It's 18.5" for semi-autos, 18" is shotguns. I was under the impression that a smith could do this legally to a rifle. As for the value... Who cares? It's mine and isn't going anywhere. I actually have a spare barrel assembly which is why I am looking at this as a project.

Uh... what? Centerfire semi-autos become restricted when cut beneath 18.5", and prohibited when cut beneath 18.0". Manual actions become prohibited when cut beneath 18.0". Maybe read the laws?

Yes, I had edited my post. You haven't got the answer to either of my questions so kindly move on, thanks. It's hard to retain all the laws and I was acting off some bad info.

You can get the SBR conversion kit. Probably easier? Factory SBR is 13" with the shorter handguard.

I appreciate that but I was looking to make the spare barrel I have work. As was pointed out that doesn't appear to be an option, I thought it could be cut by a smith but that would only work if it was already restricted.

I answered both of your questions. You would be making a prohibited firearm. That should be a pretty clear answer that nobody has done it (or is stupid enough to admit cutting the barrel) and nobody reputable would do the work because it would create a Prohibited Firearm.
