Short Barreled Ruger 10/22

It's a Fabsports 11.5" barrel I picked up used here on the EE. When I called Fabsports a few weeks ago to inquire as to what chamber it was cut with, he informed me he used Green Mountain barrel blanks to make all his 11.5" sporter contours.

I just re-read your post and notice you speak of extracting a live round. Any issue extracting spent casings?

Thanks,
Cal.

Yeah spent casings eject 100%, the only issue I've had with mine is if I happen to get a dud round that did not get any priming in the rim and doesn't fire. Then I have a round stuck in the chamber not able to be extracted with the extractor alone. Usually use a knife to hook it out. The only other issue I could see you running into at a range is that you might chamber a round, and being that its a semi, this happens by itself, but be given the order by a range master to cease fire and make your rifle safe. Then you would have the issue of getting the round out of the chamber.

8" Xtreme on mine.Could not extract live rounds even with a Tactical Solutions extractor, had to use a knife.Spent casings extracted ok except Winchesters.

Not to hijack, but for those of you who went Dlask, what's your opinion on the sporter vs extreme (Bentz) chamberings?

Thanks,
Cal.

I guess everybody's experience differs. I've got the Bentz chamber on mine and have literally never had a round fail to eject - either fired or unfired. It's the closest thing to a 100% reliable .22 semi that I've ever shot. The ammo probably makes a difference. All I use is Federal Gold Medal Target (711b.) Have never tried a HV load in it and only a few other kinds of SV.

What is your intention for your gun... benchrest or plinker or hunter? Go with the Xtreme chamber for a bench gun and the Sporter chamber for everything else.

I have both and unless supreme accuracy was a must, I would choose the Sporter every time... note that Dlask's Sporter chamber is tighter than the sloppy factory chamber.

+1

i run the Sporter on my everyday blasters and run his Xtreme on my bench gun.
love them both, have never had a FTE with either running cheap Blazers.

As long as you keep it about 26" you will be ok, I also agree that 8" is too short, here's a pic of my 12.5"!

8" is just right for a blaster.

i have a 10 inch kidd stainless charger barrel on a dlask receiver with all kidd bolt and two stage trigger set to 6 ounces each pull its a tac driver even at a hundred yards dont be worring about short barrel on a .22 lr the optimum i think is like 14 inches anyways

Depends on a bunch of things, but here is a chart on the subject with a lot of info http://www.ballisticsbytheinch.com/22.html

Just and update to my previous post #15, installed a new kidd extractor today, no problem extracting live rounds any more, just waiting for the troy stock to show up and I will test it all out at the range.
