I recall one or two compilations of 8.5/12.5" chrony data done by members posted way back... Search function and browsing this entire forum has failed me. Anyone have the data or links on hand..?

I recall that thread too, but don't have a link handy, sorry.

I briefly tried chronying my 8.5 but wasn't able to get accurate velocities, perhaps because the muzzle blast was interfering? Haven't had time to revisit it yet, but if someone can give me tips on muzzle distance from chrony, type of ammo, etc. I can try again and post up some results.

From past searches I have found two posts:

The first number is velocity with a 28" barrel, second is with a 12" barrel. I chronographed these myself. I did shoot winchester 1 oz 3" mags, but I lost my footage. I seem to recall they were about as fast in the short barrel as the 2 3/4 1oz out of the long barrel, in the upper 1500s. In the long barrel they did 1814fps.

birdshot 1 1/8 oz: 1160fps / 1043fps
game load 1 1/8: 1279fps / 1167fps
1oz winchester slug 2 3/4: 1570fps / 1363fps
1 1/4 oz federal slug 2 3/4: 1563fps / 1323fps
1 1/4 oz federal slug 3": 1707fps / 1443fps

I was wondering how much velocity i was loosing with that 8.5 inch with a cheap rifled slug HP Winny 1600 fps 2 3/4, brought my 11-87 turkey gun ( 20 inch long )to compare, installed the Oehler at 10 feets and got to shoot 10 slug in the 11-87 and 20 in the Grizzly, out of the 11-87 they were averaging 1520 fps, out of the grizzly they average 1290 fps... 230 fps for 11.5 inch difference, the lost is a lot less than i expected, like 20 fps to the inch... A one once slug at 1290 fps would be very lethal within 30 metres, was fun doing that... Cheers. JP.
