Hey all, I'm looking for a shotgun to try my luck at small game this year. Only problem is I have kinda short arms so most any normal shotgun (eg. moss500/rem870) is too long for me.
I did find one I think is promising but I was wondering if anybody has one or knows more about in. The one I'm looking at is a Mossberg 500 Bantam in 12 gauge with the 24 inch barrel https://www.mossberg.com/product/500-youth-bantam-52132/
I've been trying to find more info on it but its hard with all the non-bantam models. Does anybody know if this have interchangeable parts with a regular 500?

You do realise that you could have almost any shotgun equipped with wooden stocks you'd like, and shorten the stock to your ideal LOP. Even if you don't want to attempt such a project on a brand new gun, it's one of the easiest and cheapest jobs you can have done to a gun. I don't have a crystal ball, but I suspect you'll be happier in the long run with the gun you really want rather than the one you felt was your only option.

My hiking gun, has a Hogue stock, it's really short with the 12.5" barrel, you need to watch your thumb position or you will hit your nose when using slugs.

This is a Grizzly 870 clone, love the ghost rings, it is VERY heavy being machined steel, but is rock solid, have not had any malfunctions in 7 years or so, that I ended up selling my Remmy 870.

Almost any shotgun can be shortened to some degree depending on how the butt is attached. I'm build like a hobbit so pretty much all my guns get a trim, wood stocks are easiest to do but even fiberglass or plastic stocks can be shortened though it's more involved.

The Magoul one has spacers and you can make the stock shorter or longer (just gotta get used to the funny looking stock).

An if you really don’t care about what you look like, the AR style stocks are adjustable too. Pretty funny looking and a bit heavy for small game though.

The Bantam is a 500 but only with a short stock. Same idea as the Browning Micro Midas where the stock is designed for young shooters or people with short LOP. The idea with kids is that after they grow bigger, all they have to do is change out the butt stock. Alternatively, you can get something with a collapsible stock which has 3 to 4 positions to chose from. If you want something inexpensive, Canuck, Charles Daly and Revolution Armory have collapsable stock pumps for around the $300-400 mark. If you re stuck on the traditional stock idea then as several of the above cgners suggested, buy used and break out the chop saw.

While I could get a regular model and cut it down, my biggest problem is usually reaching the foreend. I have tried a cut down 870 and I can just barely reach the foreend. I also never really like the action release and safety position on the 870, so that's how I ended up looking at Mossbergs. Of course there's dozens of different models but after I stumbled across the Bantam one I thought I might have found a winner, and was mostly seeing if anybody else knew much about it. A lot of places selling it have the description including a bit about an "EZ Reach Foreend" but there's nothing on that to be found on the Mossberg website.

I ended up emailing Mossberg to see what they have to say about it:
The bantam youth 500 is a standard 500 just with a shorter barrel and stock on it. So it will accept the 20 gauge 500 6 shot barrels and other accessories. The EZ reach forend does have a different action slide and it is a bit shorter than the standard adult forends.

I think I will pick one up, and maybe take it apart and measure a the action to see how it compares to a regular 500
