A buddy of mine has given me a pile of 1F .223 range pickups from his local range. Nearly all head stamps are Federal Cartridge with the odd Lake City. I have mixed it in with all of my 1F Fiocchi to be reloaded.
After tumbling, and FL sizing, I have started to trim them to length and I'm noticing that almost ALL of the FC stamped brass measures under 1.750" before trimming - some up to .008" short!
This leads me to believe that the necks of this brass are short and out of spec from the factory - after full length sizing the shoulders should all measure the same, correct?
I have loaded plenty of .45ACP, but this is my first foray into reloading .223rem. Is this something I should be concerned about? Can I load it up and blast away?
