Hi All, at my local range we shoot a reduced size silhouette match, my rifle is a full regulation shiloh sharps 45/70 set up for the real stuff that when go out west to the Canadian Shiloh Match.

I would like to get a short range rifle, and would like input on a short range round like the 45 long colt that is offered in the Winchester Lowwall
or something else that will reach out with black powder that is cheap to reload for.

H&R 38/55
44mag
45LC

Of the three cartridges you listed I would recommend the 38-55 as it is an original mid range BP cartridge and has a variety of bullet choices designed for BP silhouette. It is also seen regularly as silhouette matches ans are accurate. My wife shoots 38-55 and takes out the X at 50 and the 10 ring fairly regularly at 100 with aperture sights. Its too bad she does not wish to shoot competitively.
