Short range thumper suggestions.

I’ve been using the Factory 220gr Hornady in my 18” GSR. Chrony’s @ 2180fps, 10 feet out.

If you’ve already been impressed with your GSR’s accuracy, wait till you shoot 220gr RN’s.!!

They shoot great in my M77 MKII RS carbine.

Seen this Ammunition before, never shot it, definitely going to toss a few down range, thanks for specs on it

I had one & dumped me 1st black bear with 'er. Ok fer the job, but fer sighting in off the bench it was "Ouch Ouch!" ;)

So very true but they are handy little buggers in close quarters for sure.
Every time I see one for sale I'm tempted to have another go. Just a slow learner I guess.

:)Nice. My first 348 WCF was a standard grade. And, as with a number of other firearms I've had and sold, a few minutes after I sold it  I regretted doing so. When I saw the deluxe grade one I have now, I took the plunge as it was one of the cleanest I'd seen:d:d. I'd post or PM you a photo but I haven't made any arrangements to be able to do so since the photobucket screw up. If you want, PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you a photo.

I agree. I had another one in 30-40 Krag that shot beauty with factory 180's but even that wee bugger was a tad kicky off the bench.
Missed out on scooping one in .375 Win a few years back. Dang. f:P:

673 Remington guide gun in .350 rem mag. I only made it to the 6th page of people suggesting .308, after you said no .308s so maybe it’s already been mentioned.Awesome round, 225gr partitions are awesome, performs great out of short barrels. Can probably find a m700 and chop the barrel, see the odd m77 floating around. The first gun it was chambered in was an 18.5 inch M600, but I havnt seen one of those in a long time.

The two I owned were both shooters and I’m currently sitting on an m700 I intend to chop from 24 to 19 for in the Yukon buckbrush.

I have had to google so many things since I started this thread!! Some good points by many. These 220gr .308 RN sound like something I’d like to play with. So. Now to find or build the unicorn. 16” barrel. 5lb bare rifle. Stainless. No plastic stocks. 308 or larger. I imagine will have to be short action to make the weight. Send ads if you see anything that fits!

Is that the Hornady 220 gr RN International Ammo ? and if so where did you buy it ? RJ

Yes, The international line. I’ve been buying it at Canadian Tire, but I see it at various shops from time to time as well.

*Epps shows 5 in stock at the moment.

If a .308 with a 220gr does the trick then a .300RCM with the same bullet would be even better.

Ruger's compact model 77 Hawkeye with 16.5" barrel is lightweight and truly a compact bush rifle. A real nice little thumper that can stretch out too.

The muzzle blast from that 300rcm would be big. The fire ball would be big as well. I had one in 260 and it was a great rifle. The 308 and 358 would be the max case capacity I would shoot from that handy little barrel

I had several compacts including the .300 RCM, really no worse than anything else in the platform... I like the RCM cartridges quite a bit but didn't care for the compact as it was just too light for me, I prefer the Frontier, same basic length but with a medium barrel that I find balances better. But, if "light" is what you are looking for, the compact represents a quality, economical choice. The .300 RCM loaded with the 220 RN (#3090) would be a pretty spiffy beast.
