Short Remington 870 Wingmaster

Well its my New old 1974 Remington 870 Wingmaster..

While i am happy with the result.. i really need to find a way to make that grizzly 12.5 barrel as shiny as the receiver.. and the barrel came with a few notch here and there.

Can i regular joe make a decent job at shining or blueing or whatever-ing a barrel from mat finish to shiny finish ? or is it a kind of job you are better to pay someone in the know.. ?

Also, im open to suggestion to make it more ###y if you have some idea..

Best to address the bbl bluing task via someone experienced.

As to thoughts of making the firearm look, er, "more ###y" the guys in the Black/Green Shotgun section can offer better ideas.
 
if i find a way to talk to moderators, i dont mind moving this thread in the "black/green" section. I tried searching, and didn't find what in the hell does "Black/green" represent or mean.

And this project started as a bear defence weapon and eventually hunting.. therefor posting it in the "Hunting" section

What is a black and green shotgun ?
 
I'm not 100% sure, but my hunch is anything tactical/tactical-looking (black) and/or military-looking. (green?) At any rate, for the sake of this discussion, any shotgun not really well-suited to hunting...with a barrel shorter than about 20"...would probably be a better fit IN that "Black and Green" forum.

To your exact question about the gun's finish~I wouldn't have even asked the question in the B&G shotguns forum, it's probably better-suited to the "Gunsmithing" forum. Were I to guess at an answer though...I think you'd need to have it professionally done to even come close to an old Wingmaster's level of finish. (as an owner OF a 1968 Wingmaster myself) I'd also hazard a guess that there is a small chance that the quality of steel in that Norinco barrel might not be quite as good=an exact match might not be possible. Worth a shot though, but I don't think it would be an inexpensive thing to have done.
 
No personal experience, but I did notice Ellwood Epps has their prices for bluing posted. Not sure if they would give any consideration for such a short barrel.

Figured as much. I was hoping to simply shed some light on why you were getting the "post this in the B&G shotgun forum" responses.
 
The Rebel Wingmaster was the inspiration for mine, already talk to him in private message about this and that + the leather holder.. as for the rest its virtually already the same as his but my american chesnut color is darker brown-redish

thank for the info anyway :) the thread is indeed full of idea.. I read them all before buying my first shotgun
 
I built a bear gun out of a well worn wingmaster. I used the vented rib barrel, cutting it to 18" and re-sighting it. Add a 3 round magazine extension, and it looked great. I stripped the action down, gave it a thorough cleaning, and it's still a great bush companion, 20 years later. When you start with a high quality platform, you end up with a better project.
