I was all set to buy a Maverick 88 with 18.5 barrel until I thought to check if it took choke tubes. Of course it doesn't,so now I'm stumped. This gun is for double duty-first is as a coyote gun,to back up the .223 on closer range multiples. I need it to be able to make 40 yd shots, probably not achievable with cylinder bore and #4 buck or BBB shot.
Secondly is for protection while bowhunting in bear country or while hiking in same. Cylinder bore is fine for that.
I really don't want to go over the 18.5 barrel length in the interest of portability but if there was something else close to that wiht screw in chokes I guess it could work. The Mossberg is just such a good deal, everything else seems to be considerably more expensive. Any options out there that I'm missing? What does it cost to have a barrel threaded for choke tubes?
