Short stroking or WTF?

Was there any problems with the original gas block?
If not ,it could be the new one is lined up to give enough pressure to single load but with more than one round applying pressure under the first round it won't cycle.
Will the rounds cycle if you load the mag and cycle each by hand whith the charging handle?
you might have to enlarge the hole in the barrel to the recommended size.

Please don't help...

Most Gas Blocks have port opening in the 0.125 range.
You have to put a major cant in them to restrict flow and then it would not lock the bolt back.

Most likley it is the way the rounds are presented to the bolt, or the bolt carrier is dragging on the rounds in the mag well.

Best way to fix is check on another lower.

Does it lock back on the Magpul mag if you pull it back by hand?
Kevin, no it does not, cocked by hand or last round, it slams shut on the Magpul mag bolt closed.

Update, I finally found a milspec tube so I could mount my Magpul MOE stock, so it is on, and mounted and now it takes 2 or 3 tries to get the bolt to lock to the rear:eek:! I have the tube threaded in enough to hold the spring catch in place, that's it. Could this be leading somewhere? To be honest, I bought the lower complete, but bought a 6 position stock and put it on the lower before I ever had an upper, simply put, I never got to shoot the lower as it was sold to me. Is there something in the lower/buffer tube/buffer/spring area that I am overlooking? Again I appreciate everyones input, I know I look like a total fool on this, but live and learn!

There is something wrong with your Lower...

take the bolt out of the carrier, and first slide it within the upper and see if it is not binding, then try the same thing on the lower and charge it.
See if it binds anywhere.

It's near impossible to do this without pics. Can you either post or email pics?

We had a similar one in the shop the other day. In fact it was so similar I thought it was the one being discussed in this thread.

Anyway, the problem there turned out to be a slightly too long buffer rubber (that rubber bit at the back end of the buffer) was shortening the stroke of the carrier and probably causing it to be bumped forward too quickly for the mag to push the next round up.

We compared the buffer in the rifle to a new standard buffer and the one causing the problems was at least .150" longer.

Kevin read your post carefully, then read mine . Sound similiar. You should know that manufacturers of gas blocks have been known to misaline the gas block pin holes offsetting the gas block hole He could also check the butt screw as to it's length by looking at the back of the buffer for indentation. And yes it would help to have another rifle around to change parts to narrow the problem down.

Bought a new (to me) lower......problem solved! Feeds great, holds open on the Magpul mag, good to go! Lower is Norinco with an American LPK installed. I know, before you say it, big gamble with a Chinese lower, but the price was right and I have never had a problem with Norkie stuff, and hey, it fixed the problem! Thanks to everyone who threw in their 2 cents, great help from all. Going to throw all my extra parts together and sell the old receiver, maybe someone can use it, as a receiver or maybe a boat anchor!

Hey my Oly 9mm upper had the "barrel side" hole in the upper machined at an angle, when the barrel was mounted with a FF handguard you could see it off-center by 1/4" where it exited the handguard. Enjoy your new addiction, it just gets cooler from here on..
