I was just sizing some once fired 'wolf' brass for my .44 mag. I measured the bass to 1.258. in my book it says trim length of 1.275. are wolf cases cut real short for some reason? is it safe to use being that much shorter?
is it one case or all of them? wolf uses once fired brass so i'm sure some short ones slipped by.
it wont make a difference in terms of OAL of the loaded round, but will effect the crimping side of things. if it's a couple pieces i would set them aside or chuck them out.
my calipers have to be way out. it was hornady cases I was sizing and I got a factory loaded Remington round and they are the same size once I seat the bullet down to the cannelure and cases look the same. I think I need a new caliper I thought the CTC ones were okay?
i have 2 pairs that read the same, seem to work just fine. i check the zero when closed everytime i use them.
the company that makes them makes many other brands just rebadged like dillon and frankford arsenal from the pictures i've seen. so unless you get the high end brands i would keep the ct ones or buy a new one when it goes on sale for $15.
The trim-to is 1.280", but 5 thou won't matter too much. 22 will, but only if you set the seating/crimp die up for those cases then use another brand.
The calipers shouldn't be an issue. They come to 0 when you close 'em?
they don't always go to 0. if you open then then close them even with a little more pressure they might go into the -. even with the messed up calipers I just made sure my rounds all matched the factory loaded round I had.
