Shortage of Garands

I just bought one here for $400 plus shipping. It wasnt advertised. I offered to purchase it back in April and the guy contacted me last month.

On the other hand, I refurbished an SA with ALL NOS parts including the barrel!.
The only used parts are an uncut oprod and the receiver.
I paid some hefty prices due to quality but i got smokin deals on other parts.
sourced from 4 countries and 30+ sellers. I know a few things about international
shipping let me tell ya. The running total is 4 figures including shipping.

You can pick up a beater for $450. That's as chep as I've seen them. Contact Shooter's Choice in Kitchener ON, they had a couple last time I was there. They also have an online inventory.

Are the new ones that bad ? Springfield is currently building assault rifles used by a lot of law inforcement . I can't see the new Garands being that bad , perhaps they are better . Has anyone seen one up close to make an honest call or is it just gossip .

There are parts guns made with mostly used and refinished parts, not worth the coin.
I've read as many poor reviews as favorable ones. They made a run with scrubbed Breda receivers and less worn parts then they normally use, these seem to be the better of the 2 having the least amount of problems. The rest were made on ADI receivers (Austraillian firm) and seem to have alot of problems. Have a read at Battle Rifles message board, lots of info on these.

Prices are nutz. As others have said, if you must have one and don't want to pay the the high $$$, either build one or wait for a cheap one to come up. I sold one a while ago in .308 and now i see it in the EE  That's why I'm sitting on a few :D . I was at a show last week and one guy had a six-digit Springfield for 2,000. No, not a sniper or anything like that, just a lower-numbered M1. Last time I checked, Marstar had Breda receivers. Lots of people can help with re-barreling. Good luck

I remember these were brought over from Vietnam.

Yes, along with Win12 and mdl.97 trench shotguns, some terribly pitted 1911A1's and M1 carbine + bits and pieces. Years ago, I recall having a conversation with the owner of a now closed store saying that the gentleman responsible for importing these had died in a plane crash. (why do I seem to recal that he had something to do with Ruko? maybe the same rep?) At the time, I had the opportunity to purchase a bunch of receivers from them and had the opportunity to view the original registration certs when they were first imported from Vietnam. for the sake of history and curiosity, I had asked for copies of them and do have them somewhere.

I must be getting old. The last Garand I sold was a beautiful Springfield, that had been refurbed at Letterkenny Army Depot in 1965, for $300.00.
You're not that old. I can remember M1's for $125, O3 Springfields for $40, M1917 Colts for $35
AND No4Mk1T's with transit case for $175. Oh yeah, No1Mk3's for $9.95 and No4Mk1's for 11.95

My worst memory: Could not raise the $125 for an engraved RRB Creedmore with set trigger.

You can safely assume that any WWII era M1 is not going to be original to it's as issued condition, might find an original 50's production if you look around hard enough. They WWII productions were used by the US through 2 wars and rebuilt several times.

I have a SA Garand S/N 5,938,### that was made in 1955 and it is not "all original" because even these rifles were put through rebuild in the 1960's before they were put into long term storage. The stock on my rifle is stamped with "AA" which stands for Augusta Arsenal which I assumed was correct for the rebuild until I did some research and found out that Augusta Arsenal closed in 1955 so you could have many different parts on your rifle and it is still correct as issued by the US Army. Anybody with an "all original" Garand 99.9% of the time made it that way by changing parts.

Interesting. I just recieved the Win.97 Trenchgun I got off the EE here, and it is pitted and well abused. I wonder if it was one of these? Still got those rego certs? Maybe you can check for mine in there!

Holy necropost - I should come back and read these things more often....

In response to your question, the only certs that I have copies of were for the receivers that I bought - not for anthing else. But.... you can bet money on yours coming from the same guy. If it's a pitted and dip-reblued Win 97, it came from the same batch out of 'Nam

If you're not a stickler for authenticity, get yourself a Rinco M305. Similar-ish to a garand, lots of parts available, and they're priced well below what the market will bear (i.e. expect to see a HUGE price jump once they're discontinued or no longer available)

Since August I've picked up 2 one for 600 and one for 500. One of which was in the Hunting and Sporting Rifle Exchange Forum for 2 months and was in unmarked condition.
