Shortage of Goex?

I dropped in at E & I Sports in Prince George his morning and was told they don't have any Goex and they might not ever get anymore. Hassles with shipping and regulations have raised the price exorbitantly. I was told by another guy that 777 won't shoot worth a #### in a flintlock. What's the deal? Do I have to start making my own?
 
Not only shipping charges and regs but also the slimeball insurance companies are using any excuse to up their bottom line and regulate black powder out of existence. Get to the States on a trip and bring back 8 Kg's in 1 lb. canisters. US Customs allow the export (so far) of black powder and Canadian Customs allow the import of the given amount for every trip.
 
Join a BP club in your area. Most do have BP available to members.
Look up Canadian Goex suppliers - There is a fellow on Vancouver Is. that will ship. (Maybe Macdonald's Blasting?) You need to get a lot to make the hazardous goods fees worth while.
Stock up and store it - it keeps forever.

Blackpowder in the States is classified as an explosive, and aliens are prohibited from possessing it while in the States.

Hi everybody,

This afternoon, I went to my BP dealer ( a great one in my province... ).

WOW, He can sell any FFFFg or FFFg Goex Powder... but any grain of FFg....

He told me (?!&) that the warehouse of FFg Goex has exploded and that I could not buy any for months...

Grrrr...

What do you think....

Where did you get this information? I don't think it's correct. I lived in the States for 7 years as a "nonimmigrant alien" (TN-1), bought plenty of powder, and was never asked for ID to buy powder. (Buying firearms in the US was a different matter. I did that too.) I still travel to the US for reenactments and shoots, declare musket and powder at the border, and they wave me through.

the only powder that I have seen referred to as blasting powder was an extremely coarse black powder. Granulations were much more coarse than FG. I think its only use for us would be in large cannons. I am also not sure if it is available except on a special order. It is possibly used in the mortars that shoot up public fireworks displays.

My information comes from a call to a BATF supervisor in W.Virginia, who directed me to their website.
You are allowed 8kg of blackpowder at the Canada Customs, but at that point you are on Canadian soil, you are not allowed to possess BP in the States because it's listed as an explosive.
Goex would love to have it listed with modern powder.I've been to 4 shoots in Wash. this summer, each had at least 6 traders at the Rondy, NONE of them were licensed to sell BP ? 2 of the gun stores I was in were complaining about about the State and Fed. Regs. IIRC they were only allowed to have a max. of 25lbs in the building.
A private individual is allowed more in the trunk of his car than in his house :confused:
Kind of a standing joke there , about buying a wreck to store your powder.

Could you please give the the name of that dealer? I have also been looking for original BP here in QC, but every place I've checked has only BP substitutes.

Is it really that important that you use FFg? Most small arms can use FFFG, if that is available.
