shorten barrel on model 58??

It may not function if you cut it short.

The magazine cap has 2 settings, one for light loads and one for heavy loads. If you cut it short you may have to also alter the ports in this cap so sufficient gas gets through to operate the action.

It is a do it and test and if needed then fix it situation.

How short do yu want to make it? The gun will function okay at a barrel length of 26 inches. If you want to go shorteer you may have to do as guntech says or you an also enlarge the ports in the barrel. It is a trial and error procedure so go slowly!

i wasn't sure, i was just yackin about shortening a mossberg barrel and figured i'd ask about the 58, the barrel on that thing looks like its 40" long! well.. its 28. i'd like to take it down to 22 ish.. at least. i suppose its all 'tuned' to work with the entire range of 2 3/4 shells.. from back then, correct? so i could probably trim 6" off, then enlarge the ports the next size.. and then the mag tube cap ajustment should be completely functional still... i was going to leave it alone so i wouldn't wreck it, but it might be kinda fun to play with it. not worth a whole lot anyway.
