Shorten PAL Approval Times

October 5: Mailed in application
October 7: Received by CFC
Nov 1: Interview done, had references call in
Nov 3: "Your application has been processed and your license has been issued"

I called in a few times which I think saved time.

I am not sure of what the process is here in Alberta to actually get my license; call CFO, etc. Any advice would be appreciated.

Well I have been lurking around here for awhile (like a year). Finally did my CFSC course today and will be mailing my application on Monday (registered Mail). I will update as progress is made.

One question, Once i get my test results back from the CFO can i fax them in or do i have to mail an actual copy to them with a letter telling them to attach it to my application ?

Also anybody want to recommend some gun clubs to check out in the cambridge area. I dont mind driving to find a good one that is friendly to new guys.

Can't help with clubs, other than to say Silverdale was very cool the two times I went, but it's a good drive from Cambridge.

I got back 2 stamped copies of my CFSC & CRFSC tests. I sent in one original of each (and I retained 1 original of each for my records). If you dont' get 2 copies of your CFSC back, I'd recommend photocopying it and sending the original (keep the photocopy for yourself). I've read a few times that a photocopy is fine but I can't see them arguing with a genuine, valid original in their hands.

They mail it to your house.... it takes about 8-10 days from when license issued message appears....

You have to wait to get the results and send them in with the application.....

^^ The actual guide on the front pages of this thread suggest you send your application in early, leaving Section G "proof attached" box UNCHECKED, and a sticky note saying "Awaiting stamped results from CFO. Will fax once received". You can fill in that you passed, when and what province, of section G. This will let them start the application earlier. I did NOT do this however... I waited the 3 weeks to get my papers back.

Yeah.... in my opinion that puts a lot of faith in their ability to match your application with your papers..... I don't have that much faith in them....lol

I followed the directions on the form itself which tells you to attach to application.... took no risks

Here's my timeline..
Oct 2 - passed exams
Oct 3 - mailed application (registered, but not express)
Oct 11 - application received
Oct 14 - test results arrived and faxed in to wrong tn
Oct 26 - in the system, correct date
Oct 28 - called to make sure everything is ok. re-faxed test results, otherwise I would have had to wait for that letter to arrive and they were "about to mail it out" - if they request any missing information, make sure you put "R.I." (requested information) all over the cover page.
Nov 1 - called in to make sure they received test results, did my interview, had one of my references do theirs
Nov 3 - my 2nd reference did the interview
Nov 08 - Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)

I was calling about 1-2 (closer to 1) time(s) a week. Before the application was in the system, they couldn't have helped me.

Big thanks go out to Gerhard at Firearms Academy Canada ht tp://guns.to/fac/index.htm for holding a great and educative course (along with the Mrs.) and for mailing out the results within a couple of days of the tests being taken (some instructors REALLY drag their feet and cause unnecessary delays).

Sent in my application on the 17th and they received it 19th Oct.

I just called them today and they told me they have it on file. I did the interview on the phone. They asked me why I wanted my rPAL. I told them for Sports/fun/target. I hope I didn't mess that up.

I will try to have my reference call in.

No worries.. That's EXACTLY what they wanted to hear. What they don't wanna hear is more along the lines of self-defense, culling the workforce or dealing with politicians.

LOLz

I had one of my reference call in today. I need to get my other reference to call in. His wife is having a baby, lol

I may have a little problem. My phone died, thanks to my son putting it under water, and due to a disagreement between me and my provider I may not have another phone for a couple weeks. On top of that, one of my references tells me his cell number changed.

When you guys call in, do you ever get called back? Or can I be proactive on this and just make sure everyone calls in?
