Shorten PAL Approval Times

63 days still in progress will call em back friday, Its getting fairly annoying.
People get them in 28 or so days, my sargent got his 4 weeks ago..

I hope it doesn't take that long for mine, I do not want to miss turkey season. It looks like it is getting worse now instead of better since restricted transfers are also taking 3 times as long to be approved.

Have you been calling the CFC to check on the status of your application on a regular basis? I have been calling once a week since it showed up online with progress each time. Now that all interviews are done I guess I will have to contact the CFO tomorrow to see what is going on.

My file is with the CFO it has been there for I dunno 43 days?
Still sitting in the same pile. I also call once a week they never have anything
Useful to say other than call back next week.

God I'd be happy just to get it within the year.

Application Sent... March 26th
Application Received... April 3rd
Application Posted Online as of April 24th

I live in BC and called several times because my tracking number told me it arrived after 9 days, they told me to expect a delay of 3 weeks for them to receive it if I mailed it from my location, even after I told them Canada Post was telling me something else.

I was polite and genuine when I called, all 30 times (minimum). "Call back later" was all you'll get when you call the CFO these days with questions about your license application.

I'm just glad that they had it, because a 24 day period between receiving something and posting it online is just ridiculous, mind you I've never tried to get my passport or anything else yet, I just compare it to a business. If I ever encountered one run that way it wouldn't be getting any more business from me!

Good luck to all you guys still waiting I'm going to call in and do my interviews now!

Man, it seems like I've been waiting forever to be able to post this....

I FINALLY GOT IT!
Whew!

I sent in my PAL/RPAL app on Feb 27 and with the good advice from this thread I called in to expedite my application. Then I got my references to call in.

I'm just so stoked to finally have received my RPAL.

All of you still waiting....hang in there...and pay attention to the advice you get here. It really helps. I can't imagine how long it would have taken if I didn't know about CGN.

Next step...apply and wait for a LTATT.

And let the buying frenzy begin!

I was told there was a mass hiring of border gaurds that need rpals so they are swamped atm.

The classes I took were specially held for the people applying to be boarder guards. Out of 24 in the class about 18 were applying for jobs. Sad thing is some of them should NEVER hold a gun. They were unbelievable. During the practical exam one of them kept pointing the gun at the instructor!

When I took my firearms courses we did the practicals one at a time, you could not watch others go through it. Pointing a gun at the instructor would be an instant fail, hopefully these people won't be able to own any firearms.

So just to check something with other people from Ontario. I know this thread says to mail in your application before you get your test reports back in order to speed up your waiting times. BUT at my firearms course the instructor handed out a paper that said you must wait until you have your results back before you can apply. Can anyone from Ontario help me with an answer? I would like to send in my application ASAP to get the ball rolling but I also don't want to screw anything up.

Thanks in Advance.

Wait till having a PAL becomes the new tattoo. People will be lining up to have one because it's trendy. Then we're in trouble.

Absolutely. To hear how cavalier that class must have been is surprising, especially for border guards! Hopefully they get some kind of better training with their agency or something. My CFSC instructor was an ex cop and would have laughed me out of the class if I swept anyone with a muzzle let alone pointed the gun at him! Good times though :owned:

6+ weeks and I am still waiting for my exam results... how long does it take to place a stamp on something? My application will expire by the time I can send in the results lol

I just contacted the CFC to check the status of my app and was told that it was with the CFO. I then contacted the CFO's office and the nice lady there checked out my app then said that the background checks were being done. She told me around a month to fully process. This is getting really annoying, the RCMP had my app for a month. Doesn't the RCMP do the background checks and the CFO simply approves the app?

THE CFC finally got all my info scanned yesterday and I just did my interview :) I work with both my references so they are going to call in this afternoon. Getting so close I can almost taste it now. :D

Interesting that the very first interview question I am asked is "Why do you want a handgun" - My answer - So that I may go target shooting at the local range. :)
