Shorten PAL Approval Times

Hey everyone, I'm new here.
I had a R/PAL that expired and am applying for it again. I don't need to retake the courses, but haven't sent in my application yet. I did a lot of reading on this thread and am wondering how everyone is checking online for their status.
Thanks

Go to the CFC website....enter some personal info and up comes an answer..or phone them

Boo. Still no PAL yet. Received on 8-Nov-12. Online in about 3 weeks, " Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date." Showed up before the 28 day period was up. That was sometime before Christmas.

I was kind of an idiot, I waited to get my CFSC course report in the mail first before sending the application...despite the advice of this thread, I know, but I wanted to package it all together. It's just how I am. The idiot part: I forgot to put my CFSC report in the envelope when I sent it. Anyhow. The day after it showed up online I went and faxed it to them. Called them the next day to ensure that they'd received the fax and processed it. The confirmed that they had accepted the fax and put it on my file. No problem. This was still before 28 days were up.

So the mandatory 28 days hits, check online. Still no PAL. I'm like, that's ok. They're probably on Christmas holidays too. 28 days was like Dec 26th or something. So I wait. 30-Dec 12 I called to check up. They said the my application had gone along to the Ontario CFO's office. Ok, Cool.

Still no PAL. I had called again 2-Jan-12. Got the same info. The application is at the Ontario CFO's office. They added that it could be up until the end of this month (Jan). Which brings the total application process with course back on 12-Oct-12 to almost 3 months.
They've billed me for my PAL and everything.

Just really hoping that it goes through soon. I knew this process could take some time. I figured, I've been waiting patiently but I do want to whine a bit about not getting it yet. I figure this is the best place for me to do it. (Sorry?)

I was lucky, I started seriously calling for a CFSC instructor with a course running ASAP 10-Oct-12. It must have been that day or 1 of the prior couple that I decided I wanted to try shooting. Got a course 2 days later, my boss even let me take the day off work to do it. It was a single day course, 1 of 2 in a CFSC/CRFSC 2 day combo course for a couple who were in a rush to get their licenses. Bingo. 1 Day, Finished it. Didn't want to do the CRFSC at the time, so no day 2 for me. Awesome. Then wait.

few more weeks...course report arrives.
scramble excitedly for postage, get "everything" together, walk across the road to the post office. Send my registered letter happily on it's way. Get home. ****. Sitting on my desk is my report. Kick myself in the nuts and call the CFC. They inform me that my best option is to wait for it to show up online to see the application number. Then just fax it in. Ok, thanks! So I do that. My mistake and it seems to make sense. Having read a lot of the beginning of this thread, I knew that people put in their applications anyways, so I wasn't too worried.

Blah. I'll quit with my dyslexically chronologically skewed retelling. I just been so excited about it for what feels like so long.

My 1022 and 870 are waiting!

Anyways Thanks for listening.
Hope it comes soon, but I'll wait it out. Keep following up on it. It'll happen! *Sigh...-> waiting*
LOL

Congrats... It's nice when it's finished. Both good choices for first guns FYI

What? You haven't bought one or the other (or both) yet?
That's procrastination. You have to be proactive.
Place your order on your first handgun before even taking the course.
That's the way it should be done. (More incentive to pass the tests.)

I thought about placing the order last weekend for the mp22 but thought I will wait and not jump the gun...ha pun intended

Waiting on your license to be issued and dropped in your mailbox sucks, I feel your pain! I'm waiting on a transfer for a S&W M&P 22 pistol I bought on December 15th, and I'm in BC so that means it will be awhile yet. It seems they're pretty popular, they can be really hard to find, if you find one, put a deposit down and get them to hold it for you! Can't wait until the paperwork comes through on mine and I can take it to the range! Good luck!

it is much harder to locate a ruger MK3 here than MP22. for that matter Ruger period...
I think you just talk me into putting that deposit down while waiting, I am going to try to get my RPAL license number and place my order that way and get the transfer started.
I got one more stop to make to see if MK3 is available.

You can call the Alberta CFO and get your ATT processed by phone. They will email it to you and it will show your License number on the paper. The CFC would not give out my number by phone so the CFO/ATT process is an easy way to get it. You will need an ATT soon anyway.

P&D a sponsoring member here, have it
11769Ruger MK III Target, Stainless/Synthetic, 5 1/2"22 LR475.00NEW

However I understand that this model is not the one with the replaceable grips, but I might be wrong.

I looked at a few places in Alberta online and they were all sold out of the M&P 22, ended up getting mine at a little local shop here and he only had the one left, so yeah you should go and put a deposit down! :) You shouldn't need your RPAL number to do that, people are usually really understanding when you say you're waiting for your RPAL to come through, I don't know whether you'll be able to start the transfer until you get the plastic, the store should be able to tell you that. As Nitpicker says, call and apply for your ATT though, you can do that while you wait and you'll need it soon enough anyway.
Good news for me today, the transfer on my CZ75 Shadow that was started on December 13th came through today, it's in the mail as we speak! Exciting!! :D

Congratulations....too bad they wouldn't email the papers like they do with the Long Term ATT. Did you get the Short term ATT yet or does that come with the registration papers?

I guess I should clarify, the store, which is in Vancouver, received the completed transfer paperwork and are mailing the gun out today. It is being shipped to my door so as long as someone is home to accept it I won't need a STATT. To be safe I'm calling the CFO this afternoon to apply for one in case I need to pick it up at the post office, allegedly they can email one of those to you within a few minutes....we'll see.

How do you know when a firearm has been transferred to your name? Do they call you or send something in the mail? Wishful thinking for me to get it this week as the Ont CFO seems 2 weeks behind. Cant wait for my MP22 and MP9 :)

The ON CFO has his head firmly up his ass to say the least.. so don't hold your breath. (I swear they delay EVERYTHING intentionally.. based on evidence available etc).

The store you purchased from should call you to let you know you can pick your guns up or if you bought online, should ship them. Your CFO office should send out your certificates in the mail.
I'm waiting on a transfer for an M&P 22 as well, hopefully that one will come through next week. :)

Hmmm, must be related to the BC CFO office as I hear similar complaints about them. Transfers are taking anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks out here :p

You do realize that the CFo's get together and "plot" etc etc,.. esp the crap "requirement" of range membership etc despite the fact is it NOT required anywhere in the law at all. (Nor is the range safety course for that matter aka "ATT course". Though on that one the ranges get to set their own rules per se.. and realistically it is a good idea for a newb etc). However what most ppl do not understand sadly and do not fight back against is "policy" does NOT = law. Much to the CFO's dismay. Basically they are tyrants installed by moron politicians that tend to desperately ignore the actual law as much as they can.

Esp Wyatt.
