My son is trying to get his first restricted gun. The Manitoba CFO said he needed a "purpose" to purchase a handgun. He paid for a range membership and bought a gun. Now he's being held up on the transfer until they inspect the range.

membership still is not legally required for ownership nor for an LTATT.. by federal law...and the CFO's Policy is NOT law.
As for the range inspection.. it's again them trying to make life more difficult for the gun owners... esp since there is no actual proper definition of a range in our laws.. The "guidelines" book they so often refer to is NOT law.. though they don't like to admit it at all.
Oh and "purpose" yes.. use target shooting. But again.. there is no law that says you have to have a membership at a club etc to be a target shooter.
Well this should be the big week that my card is issued and mailed... fingers crossed!

It appears online as being received OCT.13 so that makes this week the end of the 28 day waiting period since the day they received it.
Timeline thus far:
OCT.4 Non restricted test taken
OCT.5 Mailed my application
OCT.13 CFC received my application
OCT.22 Status changed to "Completed initial processing, now in progress"
Hopefully issued and mailed this week?

"Now in progress" means they probably sent it to the CFO in BC for final revision. Not sure, but either way, thats where it goes between Miramichi and you.

Well if the 28 day waiting period does infact start the day it says it was received online then im good to go! Waiting sucks but I dont got alot of cash saved for guns right now anyways!
Your 28 days starts Oct. 13, the day it was delivered to them, this is statutory but the clerks there don't necessarily know this. You just saved 9 days.

I passed my exams (plural) 3/4 October and I still have NOT received my stamped results (and, BTW, I am also in Ottawa...............)

Just heard from the CFO (Ontario) that my papers (stamped results) were mailed on Friday the 12th.
Thanks must go to Calalta for pointing us right through the cactus jungle.
He'll get more thanks when we receive our small (BIG) card.
