Shorten PAL Approval Times

I read about 50 pages but 500+ seems like forever so apologies in advance if this has been asked and answered. My question is in regards to applications denied or unnecessarily delayed. I challenged my PAL/RPAL last week. Test scores signed in hand (Manitoba), form filled and ready to be dropped in mailbox (registered express post). I was able to answer 'No' to all questions as they are only for 5 years back. My problem is I have a criminal record from about 12 years ago. (I was going to wait for my Pardon to go through, but I'm 1.5 years in and now they say it could be 2 more years). The criminal record is for Mischief under $5000 x2 (a B&E may show up, but was a clerical error. I have documentation that shows its not supposed to show up. Nothing violent, nothing drug related. Just your idiot 18 year old testosterone I guess. Anyone here have a similar circumstance? Just wondering if I should prepare myself for another 2 year wait like my pardon. (At the time was 'guaranteed' 8-10 months), but thanks to Grahm James I'm in for a epic wait. Thx in Advance Oldccm

I'm in no way an expert - but in a similar situation to you but my convictions were drug related over 20 years ago. The application specifically asks about the past 5 years and this is from the firearms act:
2) In determining whether a person is eligible to hold a licence under subsection (1), a chief firearms officer or, on a reference under section 74, a provincial court judge shall have regard to whether the person, within the previous five years,

(a) has been convicted or discharged under section 730 of the Criminal Code of

(i) an offence in the commission of which violence against another person was used, threatened or attempted,

(ii) an offence under this Act or Part III of the Criminal Code,

(iii) an offence under section 264 of the Criminal Code (criminal harassment), or

(iv) an offence relating to the contravention of subsection 5(1) or (2), 6(1) or (2) or 7(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;

So to me (and I stand to be corrected) it shouldn't matter what convictions you have had before 5 years ago. Hope some more knowledgable people can confirm or deny this....Hope I am right as I am in the waiting stage of this process too.

Just an update on my process for those wondering what to possibly expect. Took a total of 17 business days for my application to show up online after being received. This is for a Non-Restricted PAL.

Completed CFSC - March 27
Mailed Application via Registered - April 02
Received @ Miramichi - April 08
Showed up online - April 30
Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing.
It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.

Going by the status message it looks like everything on my application was in order. This should be the final stretch so hopefully it doesn't take too long.

good luck MikeAK, hope yours is quicker than mine ffs, they recieved mine on jan27th, I am now over 90 days and still waiting, same current status for over 2 months, called the other day and was told there is no problem with my app, but that for some unexplainable reason, Bc RCMP take there sweet ass time to do anything, maybe all the pot smoking out here slows them down! Sure getting frustrated with this bs, especially since a guy I took the course with who sent his app over a month later than me got his PAL last week :(

edgy call them and ask to be put through to the BC CFO, they will only put you through if you have had a 90+ day wait. a few guys with 90 day plus waits have done this and had theres flagged and issued that day. lm coming up to 90 days and will do that myself.

thanks for the info bang, I will call them today, I was really looking forward to spring turkey out here for my first time, but i guess that ain't going to happen :(

I just received my test results back today and gonna fax em in.
I got two copies of each test results. Don't need to fax in all 4 pages right? Just want to make sure :)

My RPAL application was received March 28th, it has been approved and issued as of April 30th. Not too shabby considering a week and a half ago it wasn't in the system and i was told it could be 2 weeks before it was even put in the system.

Now just waiting to get it in the mail so i can go buy the M&P the LGS has set aside for me >.<

Edit: I was on hold with the SK CFO to ask for my RPAL#as i wrote the post, they told me that they will not give out PAL information over the phone and proceeded to tell me that i must have the card in order to purchase so there was no reason for me to have the information.

- Application mailed March 10 (I think)
- Officially recorded as received on March 25
- Called May 1 to inquire, had telephone interview
- Had references call on May 1 for their interview, all went well
- Same day (May 1) licence status shown as issued on RCMP website
- Now waiting on Saskatchewan CFO

Stoked!

So it's been a week now since my interviews, and the website is still not updating. Should it? I'm not sure if my app has gone to the BC CFO, or not.

I would try to call, but I'm a Heavy Equipment Operator so I can't call from work as it's way too loud in my machine, nor is it permissible (safety) to do so. This means I have no ability to call during their business hours.

I don't want to take a day off to call them if I don't have to, and I don't think it will fly if my wife pretends to be me.

What I've read in this thread leads me to believe the website should be updated after interviews, so I need to call.

I just want to confirm though.

Thanks!

My situation is very similar to yours. Mine was an upgrade, they received it early March. Somehow I missed my interview as well as one of references. We completed interviews on Monday of this week. As of today (Thursday) there's no change in my status online. Still says processing... blah blah, blah.

I'm patient, but lets face it, the wait is ridiculous. This really is a failed government process if there ever was one.

Has anybody's status on the website ever changed mid-day? Just wondering if it's real time or gets updated overnight. In other words, am I wasting my time checking more than once a day? :)

Well sent my renewal in registered mail and they signed for it on the 25th of april and still not online and when I call they say they are very busy and will get to it when they can, Period. hmmmmm

According to most experiences I've read here you can count on about 3 weeks before it appears online. Mine had been 3 weeks to the day today and still not there, but I'm expecting it any minute now lol.

UPDATE:
Received by RCMP Marcy 7th.
In Process a few weeks later.
RPAL ARRIVED just now, Today, May 2nd.

Wooooooot. Off to P&D this weekend.
