Shorten PAL Approval Times

New application. RPAL.

Arrived in Miramichi March 11.

Interviews completed May 1. I called May 1. Was told that it had been sent to Ontario CFO.

Status changed to "license issued" on May 15.

So my status says that my license has been issued, I just called and they said that the license was printed yesterday and mailed today. So about another week or so before I get it in the mail... I asked them to give me the license number which they did.. Now what I want to know is can I order some stuff on line? I have my license number just dont have the actual license on me...

What province are you in? Mine says issued also I'd love to get the number and get some stuff ordered.

Update: Wife just called to say PAL has arrived. So total timeline: app received by Miramichi on Apr. 10, PAL in my mailbox May 17. That's not too bad. I was just a dumdum for waiting too long for my results, should have sent my app in right away. Oh well. Hopefully my mastercard doesn't melt this weekend lol.

I'm getting ever so slightly impatient... There are semiwadcutters calling out to me.

"Application Received on: 2013/03/14"
"Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date."

So I sent Priority mail from Winnipeg on Monday 9am CST. Arrived Friday at 2CST. Pretty ####ty priority service if you ask me. 4 business days for $37 and they claim reg mail would be 6-7 days for $1.41 + GST. Anyway they got the paperwork and SIGNED for it so the clock starts today. 28 days minimum. I'm either going to call next Thursday or the following Thursday what do you guys think? Cheers Oldccm

My application arrived friday may.16 as well, I just called them twice and spoke to two different agents. They both said due to high volume of mail they wont even open my letter for at least 3-4 weeks. After its been opened it will take a further month or so to process. The last agent I called said it would be a wait of 2 months at least even if everything went well.

$37?!?

Yeowch! I sent mine with plain old $10 registered mail, it got there a full day faster. Not at all worth THAT MUCH extra money, IMHO.

Just be calm and reasonable when you do call them. Being a jerkass on the phone isn't likely to help matters in any way other than negatively. Might take a call or two to get anything going, and they probably won't even register it as being "there" for a couple of weeks, so don't expect miracles on the first try.

In order to follow up with my previous posts :

My app was received and signed for 1432 EST, 19 April 2013. It appeared online today, May 17 2013 with the message that it had complete initial processing. I phoned in and spoke to a very nice woman who took my information, told me I was at the interview stage and passed me on to someone else. 20 minutes more on hold and I spoke to another nice lady (french it sounded like) who was all gung-ho, got my info, and then paused and went "oooohhhh" in that slow way that is never good. Turns out that the scanned images of my actual application have not yet been uploaded into the system and therefore we are not, in fact, ready to do the interviews.

She said it seemed everything was there, it was just that the actual images hadn't yet been scanned. She said to try daily next week as it should be done and then I could begin the interviews.

I will continue to keep these updated.

Yep not expecting miracles just want to stay on top of it without being a jerk. Probably wait till 2nd Thursday to call. As for Canada Post, they will be getting a phone call Tuesday am. This was the most expensive form of mailing they had and was supposed to be there Wednesday. Thursday at the latest, and this was summer, not like it went through a couple blizzards to get there

Here is my timeline for ONTARIO

APRIL 6TH/7TH: Took PAL/RPAL courses

APRIL 8TH: PAL/RPAL tests completed

APRIL 15TH: Mailed application via express post WITHOUT test results.

APRIL 18TH: Showed as received by Canada post. Called for confirmation and was told it would take approximately 3 to 4 weeks to show up online

MAY 14TH: Stamped CFSC/CRFSC received.

MAY 15TH: Faxed results. Called to confirm.

MAY 15TH: Showed up online as "Completed initial processing"

MAY 16TH: Called to ask for interview but was told to call back in two weeks as the application has not been scanned in.

MAY 17TH:
Called again to "check status" and was immediately transferred to complete an interview. It took Approximately 3mins and was very straightforward. Both references called in for their interview. After the second reference completed thier interview status changed to:

Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)

TOTAL WAIT TIME: 29 DAYS. IN ONTARIO

My advice? Mail application without stamped results. Once you receive the results fax them in and call right away so that your application shows up online. Most importantly do not follow the timeline they give you. Be persistent with your calls and they will get things moving.

That still blows my mind. Finished your tests on April 8th, but didn't get your results until may 14... More than a month!

Makes me glad that Manitoba courses have you walking out with final, complete results at the end of the same day!

Good job.

Lame. I did exactly the same thing you described, except mine showed up online at April 12th. Still waiting. Call the ontario CFO every once in a while, get the old "it's sitting on someone's desk" waiting on a background check.

Unbelieveable! Did you have to answer Yes to any of the questions about your past such as criminal record, divorce etc?

I did essentially everything you did but am on a huge run around at almost 70 days since my application was received.

Took me 100 days from the day it arrived in NB until it was in my mailbox and I went down to the BC CFO office to ask what was up and it was approved on the spot
