Shorten PAL Approval Times

Date mailed: Dec 17th
Date received: Dec 22nd
Date my app was posted online: Jan 16th

I am now "in progress". If I read the OP correctly that means my application has been seen and passed. And now waiting for interviews to be done. Is that correct?

No, i believe that they have only entered the data. Definitely give it a few weeks before you call in. Chances are if you call within the next couple of weeks, they will just tell you to call back.

Once it is online the application will show up as in the "processing" stage, which means it is sitting until someone at CFC reviews the application looking for missing information. When that phase is complete it is listed online as "in progress" which means in a queue for someone to contact the applicant and references.

If I'm into the "In Progress" stage haven't I already gone past the initial review?

I will call Monday, thanks for the advice. Putting my tinfoil hat on here for a second. Do they keep track of how many times you call in? I don't want to seem too eager, even though I'm itching to go shopping

I called probably ten times. Guess what finally got the ball rolling after 9 months of waiting? Calling in. Don't be shy. The CFO had to ask me a question, but never bothered leaving a voice mail. I finally convinced them to patch me through to her, 9 months later. Approved my RPAL over the phone in 3 minutes. Waiting for my card now.

If you're worried about it, just say that this has cost you money and expected the process to be faster. Which is the truth for all of us I'm sure.

Sounds like a plan. Squeaky wheel gets the grease like everything else in the Gov I guess

just PAL? I'm in SK, what prov. are you from?
What's next, app will be sent to provincial CFO or it's going to be processed in Miramichi only?

I've no idea man that's what I'm trying to establish from this thread. The OP would indicate that in progress means it's been looked over and is now lined up for interviews. The OP says to wait a few days then start calling in asking if references can do their interviews etc. People are telling me otherwise though so I'm kinda confused at the moment.

I'm applying for RPAL and I'm from AB. I'm pretty sure it won't be sent to the CFO yet. If you applied for NR though and your app was clean who knows it might well go to the CFO.

If it shows up online, it doesn't hurt to call and ask about status. I just called in and was polite and asked if there was any issues with my application when I first sent it in. I handwrote mine and sometimes my writing is chicken scratch....

Once it showed up online, I called. They said they were scanning the photo in a few days and to call back next week. I called back the following Monday and they said to get a reference to call in quoting the app # online. 15 minutes later it was approved. Had mine in my hands about 2 months since putting it in the mail if I remember correctly. Not sure if it differs from other provinces but I never thought "I wonder if the CFO has it" any time I wanted a status update. Call the 1800 # should be all you need to grease the wheels a little. Then again I'm in SK and the CFO seems decent.

Consider it a bonus, you'll have more money for a little while. The second that plastic hit my hands I went broke! oh and then had to go through the red tape maze known as transfers, ATT, and certificates of registration

My plan is to leave it a few days then call up and ask if everything was ok with my application. If they say yes I will ask if I can obtain my file number so my references can call in and if it's an option to do my interview over the phone.

Once all 3 are done then I can call the CFO and say that my application was ok and all 3 interviews are done and they may approve it over the phone?

I'm sure the call is logged to your case id. No reason not to call as long as you don't harass them. I plan to call next week about mine.

If your application doesn't show up on the website, then there is nothing they can do for you. If it's not in their system (aka same information you can pull yourself online) then there is no application number to reference. At this point your waiting for someone to complete the data entry. There should be no reason for you to interact with the CFO really.

However if your app is online, just call and ask for status quoting the app #. Ask if refs can call in, if they say yes, complete that and your license should be issued shortly after.

My app is online. The only reason I wanted to ask if my application was ok is to have an excuse to call as opposed to just calling to hurry their asses up.

If I am told that the app is ok, it doesn't seem unreasonable to ask if references can call in.

"Your app has completed initial processing"

What does that mean exactly? It's been received? Looked over? Looked over and passed onto the next stage?

I'd call with your app number on hand. Use the excuse you want to make sure everything is all good with the app. Then just ask if you can get a ref to call in. Sometimes they are in the middle of doing who knows what (background check I imagine) and they say no. If they say no, I imagine they might say to call next week. Usually the big wait is waiting for it to be online. That was my case anyway. Wait forever for it to show up online. Once it was online it was very fast.

Wednesday, October 29, 2014 - Mailed papers via Canada Post XpressPost from Saskatchewan.
Monday, November 3, 2014 - Papers delivered/signed for in Miramichi
Friday, November 21, 2014 - Called. CSR stated they are 4 weeks behind processing mail.
Monday, December 8, 2014 - Showed up online even though web portal was half mangled.
Tuesday, December 9, 2014 - Called to inquire about status stating website is down and I can’t check (even though I could, mu haha). She verified all my information and said they were scanning the photo soon. She said to call back next week and that they would likely get one of my references to call in at that time.
Monday, December 15, 2014 - Called to inquire if ready for reference checks. They confirmed it was that time. One reference called in within 2 hours quoting the application number on the website. License issued within 30 minutes of reference check.
Monday, December 22, 2014 - License arrived in mail.
Tuesday, December 23, 2014 - Broke as fook
