Shorten PAL Approval Times

I only sent in the application for the unrestricted so far (took the courses a couple weeks apart). I figured instead of mucking up paperwork, I'd wait to send in for my RPAL until after I got the unrestricted license.

May long is coming fast and I want to be able to make it out plinking.

Here's my time line for Ontario:

CFSC/CRFSC Jan 21/22
Received test results from CFO February 8th
Couriered to Miramichi Feb 9th received at Miramichi Feb 10th
Shown on line February 29th (19 days)
Credit card billed March 2nd
Sent to CFO March 2nd
Licence approved March 9th (28 Days)
Licence card received March 17th.

I called in as soon as it went on line. Had one of my reference call that day. No other interviews. Called the CFO when it showed licence issued on line. They had no problem giving me my licence number. Was able to register with a gun club with the number.

Was it the 1.800.731.4000 number you called to get the licence number?

FYI First time RPAL & PAL. Bought a used handgun last week. Registration of said gun came yesterday from CFO Orillia Ontario. Today a new License & ATT came from RCMP. The new License card looks exactly like my first one except the last four numbers are .0002 instead of .0001. It also says just right of picture Standard & non-standard conditions are attached. The ATT is a piece of paper telling all the places I can transport my restricted gun. Now the question. Do I keep both licenses or only use the new one ( .0002 ) to purchase ammo. Thanks

Use the new one they sent. They are both valid as your conditions are stored electronically so when they swipe it your conditions come up regardless of what the card says. I keep my extra one just around in the event a lose my other one

When the CFC transfers responsibility to a provincial CFO for approval, how long before they receive it? Do they mail everything to the local CFO taking days or a week, or is it available online for them to review immediately? Just wondering if it is prudent to call within a day of it being finished at the CFC and waiting CFO approval.

Question. Can I hunt beside someone who has a pal? Can we both be carrying a gun? My pal will be delayed because I saw someone about a career change and broke off an engagement 6 years, but I did a follow up appointment a few years ago to tell him how well everything has been going. I'm kicking myself for being honest but I don't see a reason that I won't get my pal it is a matter of when. I want to go hunting with my step dad and I think it may be the last year we will have this opportunity. The BC CFO said if you haven't heard back by June 1st I should call. After reading the forms I worry about the run around. Would it be worth walking into the CFO office and explaining the senario if I have heard nothing by June 1st?

damn that sucks. Perhaps it would have been better if you did not disclose that personal info. It's not like they would ever know. But regardless its done now, call the cfo and explain

Got an update online when I checked Saturday: "Your application has been received. It is currently being processed. You have been, or will be contacted either by phone or by mail for additional information. Please check the status again at a later date."

I called in this morning to see if there was some missing information and was told that I forgot to put my name on the back of my photo so it was mailed back out to me on Friday for me to add my name and send back...
What a dumb move by me, can't believe I missed that; oye.

CC was charged on April 1. But I have to send my photo back once received. Seems like they wouldn't process payment unless they were ready to issue. I'm hoping it's a matter of fixing my name on the back of the photo. Mailing back and having my PAL issued. Anyone have any experience with this (ie: charging cc when missing info sending in missing info; then having PAL issued right away?

I believe they charge it when they start the process, not when they issue it.

I asked my references to call for the interview. One of them called yesterday and was told she could not call to be interviewed and that she has to wait to be called. Was the guy just lazy or did something change. My application is online and I'm upgrading from a pal to a rpal.

I had both my references call in and they did the interview. They only needed to interview one of them, the second one was told they didn't need to interview after he waited on hold for 35 minutes. This was for a restricted. You must have gotten a lousy employee, have your reference call in again.

They won't do the interview until they have verified that all your documentation is in order. If you call them they will tell you when it's time to have your reference call in.

21 days, it's now showing online. They just called me and asked if I owned any firearms. Is this a normal question?

At what point should I call and ask if my references can call?

Just checked again.
I got the "Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date." message now.

The weird thing is that the date received is the date that I mailed my application and not the date that Canada Post said they received it. I'm not complaining though.

Called the 1-800# and asked what's happening with my file and if I needed references and was told I don't need them to call in as it's already with CFO for final review, references never called, im at day 57
