Shorten PAL Approval Times

ok awesome, good to know. Hopefully I'll be sending it out early this week, and will fax the certificate as soon as I get it.

Here's hoping I can get it before Christmas!

Looking at this thread: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/foru...ntario-Safety-Course-Results-Processing-times

Looks like the FSESO is processing September 23/24 results now. I'm too new to this stuff to comment on the fluctuations of seasonal delay so I have no idea if it'll stay 2 months behind or get better nearing the winter.

Initial processing is the check where they take your money and make sure your application is complete. Now they're running your background checks and you're in the queue for reference calls. The next/final status you'll see is that it's complete and your license has been issued.

mine finally appeared online, we're now on day 18 since added online, money came out on day 14. Had my references call on day 17 and they said "too early in the process to accept references".
*scratches head*

They don't do references while you're in "initial processing". I didn't know that until I called in the day mine appeared online. References start when it moves to "in progress". It's my understanding that the "in progress" phase won't start until your application is complete so if you missed anything, the interviews will have to wait

direct from the page of my current status and same as it was when reference called:
Application Received on: 2016/10/28

Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.

They might be catching on to our tactics of trying to speed this up. Did you have your references call the correct extension (x2533), or were they told that from the main line?

The call to me:

- Was I aware of the depression, and what was my take on the situation. With that situation in mind, did I think the person was a good candidate to own firearms. Do I feel there would be any danger posed to the person, or anyone they know. Had the person ever handled any firearms, and was I aware of their mindset as it pertained to safety (if they thought it was a joke, or took it seriously)

- How often I see the person. How do they seem. Do they have friends. Do they see them often. Do they get along with family. Do they seem them often. How long have they been at their job. What is their job. Is their life stable. Do they live alone. Do they have pets.

- Why they wanted firearms. Why both R and NR instead of just NR. How do they plan to store them. What do they plan on shooting. Where do they plan on shooting.

The follow up call to my friend:

Why you want your firearm license. What are you going to do with your firearms. How are you going to store them. Are you going to buy any restricted firearms. Is the depression situation in the past. How long in the past. Still taking any medications. Any interest in hunting. Then a lecture on safe storage and transport, and a reminder to carry the "list of conditions" even if it's blank.

Following that call, approval. I am a very sarcastic person and it was REALLY hard not to be a smart a$$ or to heckle about the relevancy of some of the questions, but it wasn't my own license at stake so I behaved.

Got a letter in the mail today from the CFO - They need my doctor to fill out the medical evaluation form confirming that I am mentally fit to own a firearm before they will approve my PAL application. Hopefully he is on board!

I'm not familiar with the form. I just know of its existence. If you have the option of letting him fax it in, do it. It'll take him long enough to get around to fill it out...hopefully you can avoid unnecessary delays from mail and sorting.

Basically it just asks some general questions about the nature of my depression and his treatment. It's a little unnerving because I know that I'm not a danger to myself or anyone else, but if he doesn't agree for whatever reason, I'm kinda screwed. And unfortunately it has to be mailed. I'm going to try to get a prepaid xpresspost envelope so it will get there quicker.

Ouch, good luck mate. Hopefully your doctor is not an anti.

Talked to him today - He has no issues signing the form to state that I'm mentally fit and able to responsibly possess a firearm. So hopefully the CFO gets the form by the end of next week and I'll have my card shortly after :)

Just for reference, my PAL/RPAL experience:
July 8/9, 2016 - Took the CFSC/CRSFC course, passed practical and written
Aug 29, 2016 - Received a copy of my stamped test results. This was by far the longest part of the process, at least it felt like it; waiting for the results everyday. The CFO's office also started a new process where they are emailing results. In all honesty the email looks like spam. The sender is "Photocopy Room" and the email title is "Copy of paperwork." Luckily one of my buddies opened the email with his results and realized what it was, otherwise I might've deleted it as spam. So to those reading this post, be careful! Don't accidentally delete your results. I made the suggestion to the CFO's office to make it look less like spam, but not sure if they've changed it since. Curiously enough, about a week ago I received a physical copy of my stamped test results in the mail (already had my licence by this time).
Sept 27, 2016 - Mailed my application in by priority mail (tracked). I know, I sat on it for some time.
Sept 29, 2016 - Received in Miramichi
Oct 13, 2016 - Payment Processed
Oct 19, 2016 - Reference was contacted, but he was on holidays overseas! Had my friend been here I would have likely received my licence within 2 weeks from Oct 19. The kicker about this is that I was also my buddy's reference as well, I answered when they called, so when he came back from holiday (Nov 4th) his licence was sitting in his mailbox. I got my licence with two other buddies and the RCMP only chose to call one reference for each of us.
Nov 4, 2016 - My buddy contacts the RCMP upon his return.
Nov 15, 2016 - Licence received. ALL DONE!
As I went through this process I found it useful to go through these forums and read about these timelines, so I thought I'd share my experience.
I sat on my application for a month, so all in all, it was a pretty quick process. Some people suggest mailing in your application before you receive your stamped results so that you can start that 28 day timer, but in my case it was close to 2 months until I received my stamped results back; so Miramichi could be sitting on your app for some time. Nonetheless, the path is yours to take!
Good luck to those reading this post and on their way to getting their licence.

Took my course Oct 29/30. Registered mail to Miramachi was received on November 4th. CC charged on the 17th.

Called in today (Nov 24th), they said they needed 1 of my references to call, gave me the extension and file number. My reference called in at noonish, I called back at 4 to see what the next step was and was informed it had been approved. My 28 day waiting period is up on the 2nd of December so they said they would mail it out then.

Definitely worth calling in! Both people I spoke with today were happy to help and talk to me on the phone.

Looks like I'll be getting an early Christmas present this year :)

Here I kept track of my progress very well.

Completed course on September 25th and I sent the application in a week after. Still haven't received stamped results back... my 28 day waiting period ended on November 3rd.

They told me they sent out results for September last Friday and the Friday before, but I'm still waiting... going to call yet again on Monday.

The fact that we have to wait for our test results in Ontario alone is ridiculous! Every other province they get copies of their results right after completion of tests! That is something that should be STANDARD no matter where you live. I wrote mine early July and got my results emailed exactly 7 weeks later(got a mailed copy approx a month after that!). I had waited 3 weeks before sending in my application so by the time I got my results and faxed them in I only had a few days left on waiting period.

I am taking the Rpal in 2 weeks but am going to hold off on mailing my application until I get results back as I see it taking longer this time. I feel for you though. Pretty ####ty to have to wait before having to wait again...

Looks like they're on top of things.

Oct.17 - Sent Registered mail
Oct.21 - Received by CFC
Nov.1 - Appeared online
Nov.4 - Reference called in
Nov.18 - License issued (28th day)
Nov.25 - License in hand.

BC resident. First time applicant.
Non-restricted, and Restricted!

can someone fill me in since I don't remember what they said in training.

Did my CFSC, did my R-CFSC in ontario.

Have my pal application filled out. I'm supposed to wait until I get a letter from the CFO before I send in my R-PAL application, right?

IMO , send in what you have right now and get the 28 day waiting period started.
I sent in my rpal app before I got my letter from CFO . Where it says "proof attached" DO NOT check that box. You can call them when you receive your letter from CFO and fax it to them
