Since in Quebec, the Sûreté du Québec does all the investigating, I have to wonder what the federal CFP was doing for 6 weeks until they sent my file to the Quebec CFO. I found out that the provincial CFO has 3 month from the time they receive a file to process it. In the meanwhile, every time I called, the answer was basically, "it's in the system."

It's very frustrating seeing people in Ontario, British Columbia and elsewhere getting their files processed in 30 to 45 days. I also note that both Ontario and B.C. have dispensed with the telephone interviews. In my Quebec experience, the telephone calls lasted 3 minutes and only repeated the questions that were on the PAL form. I sense that maybe Quebec is also leaning toward skipping the telephone interviews.

I honestly don't believe that Quebec is so overwhelmed with applications that it takes them 3 to 4 times as long to process a file. And, across Canada, I don't understand how the machinery chooses to process one file in 30 days and another in 6 months, when the applications are reported to be the same. I'm speculating that some people are just tagged for mysterious reasons and their files are put on the shelf as long as bureaucratically possible.

4 mois...mon dieu. Im in montreal.
D51 , still waiting. but seems I'd better forget this thing.

After 17 years I finally decided to upgrade my PAL to an RPAL. I mailed in my paperwork 37 days ago and it still hasn't been started. Called Monday and they can't even tell me if it has been received. Should have sent it signature required. The wait is painful haha.

I think he's talking about quebec cfo.
don't worry, AB,ON and BC is much more faster.

Mine was done really quick. But I have a friend who is on day 300 and something in AB. He calls weekly and just gets told "its with the CFO".

Apparently it only went to the CFO about 2.5 months ago though, so if 3 months really is the limit he might actually be approaching liscence time.

I received similar information from the CFOs in SK.

Day 45 I called and was told the “7 week period” doesn’t start until they run your card/collect payment.

Day 67 I called and was informed that the application could take 30-90 days from when it is received by my local CFO

Well my CFO received my application on Day 51 and was not approved until day 155. So 104 days locally at the CFOs level.

So I take it that they have 45 days to review the application for errors, run payment and deliver to the CFO. Then the CFO has 30-90 days to sign off or deny.

Finally!
License got issued yesterday.

License received at miramichi on march 29
Appeared online on May 13
License issued on June 15.

Now the shopping start for the first gun.

I have not read one single thing that really shortens wait times. LOOK I AM GOING TO PUT IT OUT THERE ... I lived a good few years in the South U.S.A. . Lets be honest ... Canada is a NANNY state / Anti Gun Government & Police. ( Not sure how it got that way , being on the same Continent) . The RCMP is ANTI GUN. I think they slow walk & jerk Gun applicants around as much as they can get away with. Now with the Liberals in Power , I so look forward to retirement years to get the Hell out of Canada & back to the South. NOT a proud Canadian

Seems like a totally reasonable course of action.

Ok so my 28 days is up tomorrow, my information doesn't come up when look online, I called yesterday and was advised that I'm
Not in the system yet and he couldn't tell me anything about its status as I'm not in the system? Does that seem right too anyone else? I was under the impression that a day or two after receiving my paper work it would show online indicating it's been received and a file opened and would change status too pending after the 28days? I'm hoping it's visible tomorrow as pending not holding my breath. I'm also making the assumption that the 28 day hold is calendar and not business. If it's business I have another week and a bit too wait. Thanks

Ohhhh boooyyyy ... You ever watch THE SIMPSONS ??? .... Marge's Ugly sisters that work in the DMV. That's this RCMP department. The Union repremanding if they don't work SLOW ENOUGH!! Also senior levels of rcmp no different that FBI. Hijacked by Socialist Marxist running their own agenda .... for years. Result .... They believe they are saving the Country by slowing down 1 Gun applicant at a time. What a Joke .... they put these phone operators on that can't do a single thing & know no more than you do .... ALL to look good.

They don’t even look at it until after the 28 days. They received mine May 30th and it finally appeared online last Friday.

I sent my application registered mail. Sent from Toronto area. I know they received it on April 9.
When it appeared on line a few weeks after that, the date showed "receipt date April 9."
Status changed to approved 47 days after that date, May 25.
Received in the mail the following week.
No calls to references.
Be patient, it will come.
