Shorten PAL Approval Times

So the CFO got my application on June 11 and have been waiting for it ever since called the 1-800 # and told me that bc has it now and should only be a couple weeks before it's mailed. That was in sept. So I called today and got the bc CFO number so called them directly. Was on hold for 10 minutes and then she said that she approved just then while I was on the phone with with her. So in total it took me about 5 months. Wish I got the direct line to bc CFO sooner.

Please help
So I am not the only one in BC that got this problem
I am in the same situation too..... mine application is sitting at the BC CFO for almost 4 months now.
if you don't mind could you give me the direct line to BC CFO so I can call them so that they can approve it faster?

Thanks

Ive been waiting almost 5 months and still nothing. Called a couple days ago they said its at BC cfo waiting for approval.. Told me to call back in a couple weeks and check. People have applied after me and have already gotten theres. Im getting very impatient

From course to having plastic in had was exactly 2 months for me here in Ontario. I xpressposted it to them also I sent a photo copy of my drivers license. Not sure if that did anything but they didn't call my references. I have a clean record, I know a few people who say their references weren't even called. It took 11 days after approval to get to my mail box.
Now I'm broke...

Got a phone call from the BC CFO saying that my application was approved today for RPAL. 218 days since it was received. Let the shopping begin!

Just to add a note,
He mentioned that any sort of contact with police, whether it be a traffic stop (where you got a ticket), filing a complaint or anything where your name was entered into a the system, it will trigger a flag on the application that the CFO has to review further. Unfortunately this can make applications take an extremely long time for first time applicants.

This thread was helpful in making sure that things kept moving along with my PAL application (in New Brunswick), so I figured I would post my times / what I did.

Mailed: Oct 6
Received: Oct 9

After a couple weeks I started calling in once a week to see if they could confirm they received my app (didn't send it registered mail). Around Nov 5 they said they were starting to process applications received the week before mine. Well she must have tossed mine in because the next day it showed up online and they billed my credit card.

Showed up in the system: Nov 6
Called in as soon as it showed up in the system. I had checked PAL + RPAL in the section that asks what I plan to apply for in the next 5 years. Apparently that means you're applying right then for PAL+RPAL. They corrected that on my app.

Issued: Nov 13

Now I just need to see how long it takes them to mail it from Miramichi to Fredericton.

I am so glad I don't live in Ontario anymore.
I bought a pistol in Edmonton on a Sunday afternoon. I had transfer AND STATT by 9:45 Monday morning.
How does it work that a CANADIAN program is allowed to vary SO widely from province to province?
I think the worst part is that in true government fashion, if anyone b@#$hes too much about it, they will all change for the worse.
I also have my RPAL and have NEVER been interviewed and only one of my references was called.

Rpal submitted Sept 9, Showed online Sept 15, 1 reference called Oct 25, License received Nov 14. Ontario. I did not receive a call from the RCMP.

Talked to rcmp again today. They received my application June 23rd. My application has been assigned to an officer. They tried to put me through to him but I got his voicemail. I was told I would hear back from him in the next week or two. Any idea how much longer I'll be waiting before it gets approved? Almost 5 months now

Great thread but wow...782 pages long. I am wondering if the advice on the first page, updated 2012, is still accurate. It says to send in my application without the test results and then send them in later when I receive them back. I completed the non restricted last week and the restricted exam this week. My instructor said to wait till I get it all together. I was wondering if anyone has sent these in separately (lately)...? I am in Ontario.

Thanks all. Very informative website.

Cheers, Shawn

It helps with the 30 day wait period here in BC atleast. So if you send it in and 30 days goes by it helps speed it up because the wait period is over when you send ur paper work in.

The paper work is easy, Get a picture done at costco, fill out ur cards and paper work, Put the sticker on the back of your pic, and send in :)

I called the BC CFO and they approved my licence right away in under 2 months. I called allot and I got attitude but insisted to be put through. You paid for it, so they should work for you.

It all depends in whether or by you checked off any boxes for mental health issues or criminal record. If you checked off anything in that section they put your application in another pile and do a more thorough background to make sure your are safe to own a firearm. That's why some guys get it in a couple months and others take closer to a year. Last month when I phoned they basically told me they are waiting for the background check. Now they actually have my application assigned to a specific officer. Hopefully it's not much longer.
