Shorten PAL Approval Times

This is so messed up on times. Been waiting forever. Called on Monday. They said for the 5th time it's with CFO. I asked if I could talk with CFO, they said no, if they need anything they'll call. They've had my app since Dec 9th.

Just ask for the BC CFO when they answer the phone. Then wait on hold and cross your fingers

Mine was received 11 Dec. Sent to CFO on 26 Mar. I have called multiple times with the same BS response.

I had the same issue although mine was received Jan 30th. I called, as soon as they answered I just asked to he transfered to the BC CFO's office. Was approved over the phone. licence in hand April 20th.

I speak with BC CFO's office every time.

I called and said I have been informed that my application was at your office for over a month and was wondering if they required anymore information or if there was anything I could do to get it moving. The person on the other end confirmed some items put me on hold and then came back and said she had approved it. I got my RPAL number and exp date in the same phone call. I don't know why the island is taking so long, I feel it is hit and miss. I hear people getting approved within 45 days and others are over 80. If it goes to the CFO expect to wait.

Mine was a new application as my old license expired before I renewed. Won't let that happen again... Just a PAL, not a RPAL.

Anyway-

March 17: sent my application by regular mail from BC.
April 14: showed up online as being received on March 23, "in progress" since then.
May 6: License issued.

So, 44 days since they received it, if my math is right. Feeling pretty fortunate given some of the stories here. And I don't believe any of my references were called; at least nobody has mentioned it.

Application Received 23 March, reference called in 1 May and they told me today that my card is printing process, should receive my card within 2-3 weeks.

Glad to hear.

My rpal timeline is almost the same. Received March 26, ref called in May 4th. I'm hoping mine is also in print. I'll call Monday if there is no update online

Im renewing as well after it expired, they received it on march 23. Called yesterday and they said they just have to scan my photo, and to call back in 2-3 weeks, was she smoking something? Only called once yesterday, dint say anything about references calling.

8pm? Didnt relaize they were open that late.
I am called in on day 40 of my application process. Was told I did not need to do an interview. And only need one reference to call in. RPAL application.

Actually my CFO works until 8h30pm for reference calls. Her voice mail was saying that her business hours are Mon-Thu from "something" until 8h30pm. This makes sense to me because some people may only be able to return the calls after they finish work.

I called my CFO the day following my approval to thank her and got from her my PAL number & expiration date. At least I have something "handy" until I receive the actual card in the mail.

Another thing that baffles me, I see a lot of posts where the RCMP approved the application over the phone, or within minutes of the phonecall. My understanding is once the RCMP do their thing, they have to send it off to the CFO to get their signature. Just curious on how that works for some and not for others.

anyway, congratulations

When the RCMP is done with its part, your file gets transferred to your province CFO. Then the province CFO takes care of your file from that point on and they are the ones who approve your PAL and issue it.

Thanks for the congrats.

Got a hunch it won't be long until you get the magic "licence issued" message (but I base that on nothing)... Maybe it's a bit easier after you've already been issued a license (even though you let it lapse?) I don't know and can't see any rhyme or reason as to how these things can either go through in 45 days or sometimes take months. Gotta think they'd save themselves from answering the phone a thousand times a day if their internet system had more detail than simply "we've received it" and "it's been issued".

Or better yet, if they'd pound them out in their "service standard" of 45 days. Seems like ample time to do what they need to do.
