Shorten PAL Approval Times

Yup.. called today to verify all was good and they said they just need to scan in the photo and send the app to the local CFO for final approval.

Call RCMP, check your application status, if they need to check your references, then you can ask your reference to call in. Then you will get your PAL a little bit quicker.

Hope this message will help you!

Good luck!

The whole scanning the picture after references seems odd to me. You'd think they'd enter/digatize everything in the application envelope as the first stage. Either way with one day between our references calling in, its an Ontario vs Alberta CFO approval race. I think it'll clear your CFO's desk faster!

Hello Everyone, Iv been following this thread through my application process and i thought i would share my experience this far.

Mailed out my application June 13TH by next day priority. Think it cost me 7$.

Recieved On June 18TH.

Appeared Online July 8TH

Approved and License Issued July 29TH.

As of now im just waiting for it in the mail :D . I did go for just the regular PAL and i am in Ontario, I called about once a week and checked on the status, now all thats left to do is wait for the mail.

Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canadian Firearms Program Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)

Maybe what they say about Friday issues is true!

Congratulations! I just checked mine and it hasn't changed yet. You win, but hopefully not by much...

Just a quick time line update for anyone that may care.

Took the course June 10, got test results back July 6. Mailed the app on July 8. Showed up online today(July 31) saying that it was received on July 13.

Now I continue to wait............

PAL to Rpal upgrade status:

May 29th app received in Miramichi
June 12th online - credit card charged $40
July 16th ready for reference to call - called in within the hour
License issued within 2 min of reference calling in.

Not bad at all 48 days for license to be issued - took originally 49 days for the non-restricted to be issued earlier this year. Who cares, I'm happy and goin' shoppin'!!

Hmm, maybe, maybe not. Mine chaged on a Thursday but it was an upgrade from PAL to RPAL. Might have made a difference.

I made an account to update the thread with details for a recent new RPAL application in Ontario.

• Exams exams May 23/24, 2015
• Stamped tests Results arrived in mail May 31 or June 1.
• Sent application June 2
• Received application June 4
• Reference called July 20
• RPAL card arrived in my mail box between July 26 and July 31, 2015

I was out of town during the week that the CFO-stammped test results were delivered and the week when the license arrived. The date ranges are the earliest and latest the letter could have arrived. Unfortunately I cannot be more specific.

I am certain of the application receipt date as I sent it signature-required; that seemed appropriate for a parcel containing personal information and credit-card details

The website was not compatible with my computer so I am unable to comment on the application process and how it is reflected online.

  • June 24 - App received/showed up online
  • July 14 - CC charged
  • August 4 - License issued

Grand total: 41 days including a long weekend. Not bad I suppose :d

Initial process complete. License has been issued. Should receive in about 2 weeks.

Thank you every one for all the info you guys put together. Special thanks to calalta for starting this thread. I'll be sharing my time line soon.

Until the references are called, they won't know for sure if they will decide to issue the license or not...

So it wouldn't make sense to make up the card for someone in whatever program they use to make them, if they end up not issuing it in the end...

wasted time.
