Shorten PAL Approval Times

Day 70 today for Non Restricted Pal in BC, I had to check a box and know i will be waiting much longer, I have read that it can take in excess of 120 day to get a CPIC done, I am guessing that time frame is for people who have lived all over Canada and may have records all over Canada and in my case I do have a record in BC and Ontario. I don't have a problem waiting as long as it takes as long as the laws don't change while my application is in a pile.

I am also around day 70, but I have a clean record, did not check any of the boxes, still live in the area I was born in, therefore I have a problem with waiting because I don't know why it's taking so long. But there is nothing I can do but wait, so that's what I will do.

Quick q, does the following message mean that the forms have been correctly filled in and is just been processed as per their schedule?

Awesome. I already love mine. I haven't shot it yet, but already managed to break a snap cap which got stuck in the chamber. I fixed it with the cleaning rod though.

Hey everyone, Im new to this site, this is my first post. I am from BC and I have a passion for guns, I have always loved target shooting.
I did my non restricted pal in nov 2015 and still havnt heard anything..My application says "Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date" I have called twice and they say its normal and could take up to 9 months . I did have to check a box have you ever been charged, but it got thrown out in court so I have no record.
Does anyone know how I can speed this up? Or a number my reference can call.

Thanks for the help

Phone 1-800-731-4000, ask if they've received your application and if your references can phone in for interviews. If they need them to phone in, get them to using the file number provided (it's the same file number found on the CFSC pal application status website). If they say your file is with the local CFO, go for a drive. Go to Surrey and visit the CFO office in person. Not too far from chilliwack. Be very kind, respectful etc... and inquire about the application, noting it's been 5 months and you are just curious if they need something from you. If you are lucky they will review your file right there and give you an answer. You can phone them, but in person has a higher chance of success from what I've seen. ANY attitude, snark, dismay etc... at the office and they may just give you a "you need to wait." which is why I mention to be nice, some guys get worked up after waiting months.

Awesome!! Thanks for the help I will do that, I never thought of going in person. I will go in with one of my references :)

No, the local CFO does not interview your references.

You phone the CFSC ( Miramichi NB, 1-800-731-4000 ) and ask if your references need to call for an interview as it has been 4 months. If they say no they do not need to interview them, ask if it has been forwarded to the local CFO, if it has go talk to the local CFOs office at that point. If they say yes they need to talk to your references, have your references call the 1-800, quoting your file # for an interview.

But I think if you've waited for 4 months it is likely in the local CFOs hands already, which is why I recommended popping in. I would go alone though.

Heard the Ontario CFO changed the rules so that if you want your RPAL, you can only take the shortened CRFSC in the past MONTH instead of the past YEAR. Is this true?

What does this mean? I'll have to take both the CFSC and the CRFSC again? Or can I still register for CRFSC only courses???

Edit:

Sorry, is it also allowed to take the CRFSC in Quebec even if you live in Ontario? I suppose Quebec instructors aren't FSESO certified or whatever?

Status update:
February 6th – PAL Course.
March 9th – PAL Course Results Received.
March 10th – Application for PAL sent to Mirimichi.
March 14th – Application received in Mirimichi.
April 1st – Status updated online and credit card charged.
April 4th – Confirmed with RCMP rep that I had forgotten to put my name on the back of my photo; they had mailed out the papers to me April 1st.
April 7th – Received papers from RCMP to print my name on my photo and send back. Sent back (regular mail) to RCMP this day as well.
April 21st - Online status updated to: "Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date."
April 25th - Called to see if I should have one of my references call in. Attendant said that my application was at the point where they would call one of my references but if I wanted to speed up the process I could have one call in. Got off the phone call with the RCMP rep, texted my reference to see if they were busy and if they could call in. They called in. They let me know they had completed their call. I checked status online about 30 minutes later and status was changed to: "Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canadian Firearms Program Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)".

Should have time to go for a turkey hunt yet this season!

Wife and I did the safety course in early March for our PAL's
I sent both applications express post with signature required. (Individual envelopes in one package)
They took two days to arrive at Mirimichi. (23rd of March)
Both showed up online 10 days later but, hers showed it was received on the 22nd and mine the 23rd.
Status was changed a couple days later to initial processing completed.
Wifes status changed to license has been issued on the 18th of April
I called in to see if any information was missing on mine and they said all is good.
My status was changed to license has been issued on the 19th of April.
Now it is just waiting until they arrive.
Once our PAL's arrive we will be doing our RPAL's and I hope the process goes as smoothly.
