Shorten PAL Approval Times

yeah, they won't print your license until the 28th day is over

that means i got 16 more days to go :( and approximatively 26 days until i get the plastic in my hand :(
i hope questar will let me put a deposit on a sig p229 classic .22lr that has to be ordered in

FYI i saw somewhere in this forum that printing is done on Fridays, as per Ontario CFO the printing and mailing is actually done on Thursdays not Fridays !!!

That is in the original post and I am quite sure that Friday is correct. There is a lot of misinformation given out by CFO and CFC employees.

My RPAL Upgrade experience in Ontario!!!

Wife took the PAL course on Oct 23/24th 2010
Both of us took the RPAL course on Oct 30th 2010

Total cost for wife’s PAL/RPAL courses= $244.00
Total cost for my RPAL course (minus book as she bought one) =$130 ($142.00 with book)

Received marks back in mail from Ontario CFO on Dec. 20th 2010-12-23

Sent in marks and applications on Dec. 29th 2010(Too much going on to do any sooner)

Total cost for wife’s PAL & RPAL application = $80.00
Total cost for my RPAL upgrade application = $0.00

Informed that the Frontenac Rifle and Pistol Club in Kingston, ON isn’t accepting new members until Mid-May. Cruddler!!!! The way it is going, I may not get my licence until just before then anyway!

CFC received my application on Jan 6, 2011
CFC received my wife’s application on Jan 5, 2011(Funny, they were in the same envelope)

Both called in to confirm the receipt of application on Jan 13th 2011 and found that both applications were missing one checked box. Found out that letters to that effect had been sent out yesterday. Both corrected this oversight on the phone and fixed the problem. Letters requesting further information finally arrived on Feb. 11th!! They were both stamped with postage on January 13th and post marked at the post office on Jan. 15th. How in the hell does it take almost a month to get from N.B. to Ontario??!!!!

I did my interview on the phone at the same time (Thurs. Jan 13th).
My references called in and did their interviews on Fri. Jan. 14th.

My wife tried to do her interview at the same time as well, but it was at lunch and the interviewer wasn’t at their desk.

Wife called back on Fri. Jan 14th and did her interview.
Wife’s references called in and did their interviews on Tues. Jan 18th.

I called in to see how things were going on Wed. Jan 26th and was told that everything was complete and just waiting final approval/sign-off and mailing.

Wife’s status changed to issued/mailed on thurs. Feb 3rd after the 28 day waiting period.
Mine was changed to issued/mailed on Monday Feb. 7th !!!! 32 days after receiving it for an upgrade from a PAL with no mandatory waiting period!!!

Got both of them in the mail on Wed. Feb 16th only 3 1/2 months after we took the restricted course!!! Nice work on them!!!

Is this what i'm looking forward to? I mailed my papers to miramichi on Feb.10th. Still waiting for my CFSC stamped from CFO Ontario. Got to still fax that in to Miramichi when that arrives. This is crazy...looks like I wont have a PAL 'till MAY. :HR:

hehe

all the interview's needed for my pal have been completed, both references done..
all this was done BEFORE the 2 week mark...

now i wait until march 4th, to see my status go from in progress to issued :D

RR22,

Maybe not. As you can see, almost two months of our wait was waiting for the CFO to issue our marks. I would call them every week and make sure they have received them and are on top of things. That way, you could also ensure that your instructor didn't forget to send them in as well. I think that would really help. Like the original person stated.

I didn't find out about the information in this thread in time to realize that you can send in the applications ahead of time and just fax your marks when you get them. That would have potentially saved my wife 28 days of waiting! I think that it really helps for you to call after you send in your application as my info was updated two days after I called.

I would also very much recommend that you call in and ask if it is ok to do your interview on the phone so you don't have to wait for them to call you. Also, when you do that make sure to get your reference number so that you can give that to your two references so they can call in and do their interviews as well.

I hope you don't have to wait as long as we did. I hate waiting! Although for us we can't even join the Kingston range until sometime in May anyway. Hopefully they have the handgun safety course soon after that so that we can start to blast away by June! Lots of time to save up and buy a couple of pistols!

Later,

Ian

Well my stuff has been sent to the BC CFO.

I went to call them just now, a search pulled up the direct number for them, very useful, anyway, I missed the office hours by a couple of minutes. Will call them in the AM.

REALLY close now.

Took the course on November 27-28. My application was received on January 14, me and my references were called on January 26. License was issued on February 11. Received my rpal today!! (feb 21)

What complete BS! So people are hindered simply because a club isn't accepting new members? I just finished my application for them today, Now I see this... What alternatives do people in the Kingston area have? I see there's a club in Napanee. These laws are garbage...

I equate this to being similar to getting a Driver's License and there is only one insurance company in town that isn't taking new members... BS!
