Shorten PAL Approval Times

Thats so weird, I just got my PAL number from the ONTARIO CFO no problem. Apparently its much quicker to purchase a firearms from a store than through a private seller

Also, what is the rule for borrowing restricted firearms?

they did the same thing to me, but it was the BC cfo...

they would let me come in person to get it but not give it over the phone. While another person who had there license approved the same day was able to get theres over the phone..
so if you live in edmonton you can swing by and get it with no problems.

Unfortunately I am a ways away from edmonton, but I was sitting right beside one of my friends when he called in and got it no questions asked... Oh well I still have had to wait as long as some of you I can suck it up for another week or two.

@all of you guys-hopefully the strike doesn't cause more problems because of delivery of our license, etc. Just for your information, PAL numbers are released by our Ontarios CFOs after some security questions.

Hey 3strokes. I've been following the Post #1 instructions. I passed the CFSC and CRFSC courses on May 8th. I sent by registered mail the completed application, photo and a note stating that the stamped test results will be faxed in once I receive them from the Ontario CFO. My application was received and signed by a D. Brown in Miramichi on Monday, and tomorrow I will be calling them to confirm that they have received my application which will hopefully make my application visible on their web site latter this week or next.

From the sound of things on this forum Ontario applicants should expect a 4 month wait from beginning to end. I find it difficult to believe that it will probably take the Ontario CFO 7 to 8 weeks to send me my stamped test results. Now my waiting game begins.

My coworker successfully completed the CFSC in March and still does not have his approved test results back. I'm going to send him the info from post #1 so that he can get the 28 days counting down. If you finished the course in May, you'll probably be waiting a while yet.

Thanks for your positive encouragement.

Finally, received my stamped CRFSC test reply in the mail today...It was stamped May 12/11...Now I'm going to send my application in today post haste and by registered mail...Gonna take 28 days or so so the strike if there is one shouldn't affect its return.
I started this process in Feb...with a one and a half months wait between the two tests. It'll be July before the process is done...Nutz....

Ontario

I did my Non-Restricted Mar 12th and Restricted Mar 13th. I received my test results Apr 28th and 29th. (I am in Ontario). Mailed my app in May 3rd. As of today still not on the RCMP website.

I must say, I am in no rush at all... Infact I may be waiting for the long gun registry issue to pass.

When you mail in your test results for the PAL do you mail in an original or photocopy? I am in Ontario. Also the fees are confusing. Is it $60 or $80? I want both the PAL and RPAL and do not currently have any guns.

"If you have indicated either restricted or
prohibited firearm(s) in Box 2, the fee is $80"

$80 for both.

I mailed in 1 original copy of my PAL test and 1 original copy of my RPAL test. Leaving me with a copy of each for my own records (aka. if the app gets lost in the mail).

For some reason I've never understood the course instructors/examiners advise to send in a copy and keep the original. Why save the original? No one in the world has any use for that or cares about that except the CFC so why not send it to them and keep a copy.

For those who send their application by regular mail, it could get lost I suppose...

lol if we really wanted to make sense of it all- the instructors should just have the ability to confirm over the phone the students that passed their test AND bingo its in the system. To be honest - even if required to do the whole 2 day nonrest./rest. courses, the police/gov./etc... have the resources and ability to check to see if there are criminal records instantaneously (all they have to do is link with the Court systems to see if there were any convictions, or questionable charges that didn't actually result in a conviction). All of the above can be done within 4 days, I even included an extra day for the sake of it :p

lol, thats how it is in BC, the instructor just forwards a copy to the BC cfo and we send in our results.

no need for another bureaucrat to look over it, and charge the government god knows how much extra....
