Shorten PAL Approval Times

My RPAL has been processed and went to the CFO. I called the CFO today and they said it is now valid and I should be getting it in the mail in two to three weeks. If I call back and get my RPAL number though, is this enough to go into a store and buy a firearm, or do I need to get the physical card before I can purchase one?

Some online stores will do the # alone.. but as a rule the card is needed.

What about an LTATT? If I call in and get my RPAL number, can they issue me a LTATT over the phone and mail it out now instead of having to wait and sort it out later?

Thanks for the info

Wow... you have much to learn about them to say the least.

OK. Not quite sure how to take that. Yes I had issues getting my stamped results back from the CFO which was due to a lengthy illness by one if the approver's however final approval was very fast (within days). Just my experience. Not quite sure how much more I can learn about them.

Not trying to stir s**t, just taken back a bit by the comment.

That is the CFO however.. and given their tendency to have their head firmly up their ass I seriously doubt they will do so.

It's simple.... any experience with them being quick is the exception not the rule.

Based on the info from a ton of ppl on cgn (and elsewhere) they intentionally do things to make it as slow and annoying as possible.. so when it does happen fast you can count that as them screwing up.

As for you... you have done nothing wrong other than a somewhat naive belief that they are "quick".

Guess I will take being naive in exchange for a quick approval. I had my POL already so maybe it had something to do with it. I had heard a lot of complaints about the test results turn around time (8 weeks for me) but not much on the approval.

Thank you though for confirming with me that I have done nothing wrong.

Finally, just received notice of approval...for RPal/Pal....Here is my time sequence...
PAL test on Jan 21 and 22..
PAL stamped test return to me on Feb 24.
Soonest I could get my RPal course was on Mar 9 and 10th.. Got my stamped RPal test back on May 14th...
Chicoutimi got my Application on May 24th
Got my online approval of licences today June 27th...
Long time but worth it...
Now It's a couple of safes, some hardware and a gun club...Then its off to do some shooting sport.

Thanks Sapper92...Now a quick question, and just to verify what I've read, I do not have to be in a gun club to purchase my first Rfirearm correct?? I should be able to purchase from a store such as EPPs and they will sell it to me and ensure the STATT is acquired and mail the purchased item to my home address. Afterward when I join my club I can then apply through the CFO Ontario for an ATT or an LTATT. Is that correct?
I too have checked the FA and nowhere does it state that I must be in a club prior a vendor selling me a Rfirearm and mailing it to me.

That has a huge impact on the system even w/all of the BS from the CFO.

There are innumerable complaints about speed being in effect zero from the CFO.. even from many I have dealt with at other CFOs offices and the CFC.

np at all... don't wish to offend etc etc of course :D

Correct that you do not need to be a member before purchasing.

You also do not need by the letter of the FA to have a membership to get any ATT either.. (many threads on this already)

Even if you join a club you can still do all of your own ATT apps as well.

The retailer does not make sure you have an STATT esp via mail order. That is your responsibility and liability thereof..

Also wondering what you think the policy of the CFO will be with a Conservative govt. in Ontario such as the Hudak Conservatives

Well if we do as I hope and abolish c-68/c-17 there won't be any CFOs at all.. so what happens in prov politics won't matter.

I can say though Dalton has pissed off a massive # of people.. including a ton of Liberals and NDPers. His time is very very fast coming to an end.

conmaesta. Shalimar is bang on and judging by his posts, he has a bit more knowledge than me on this subject so who am I to argue (not meant to be sarcastic Shalimar). The whole restricted/non-restricted for rifles is a bit much to me. I got my RPAL for the reason that I eventually want to get into handguns as well as to get into an AR platform which are restricted. While waiting for my license though, I got to trolling the Equipment Exchange and links at the top of the page and realized that there are a lot of other other similar platforms out there that are non-restricted like the Robinson XCR, the H&K SL8 or the Swiss arms. Yes more expensive but non-restricted = a fraction of the headache. No gun club membership, no ATT etc. I want to be able to pick up and go to the range at any time.

I do want the RPAL for the flexibility though.

But I like sarcastic ;) (If I didn't I'd be a hypocrite)

You make a very valid point as well.. and that is one of the effects of the BS of "classifications" as well. I remember when I could pickup any firearm and do some plinking.. handgun or not. The world didn't end etc etc... the entire purpose of such is to make ownership of such more of a pita.

Therefore yes it can be smart to have a non-res but also get your RPAL. If we all work on it hard enough we can eliminate c-68/c-17..

In the meantime though you can have an RPAL and BORROW a restricted from a friend for that matter.. so long as you don't get a gimped ATT.

The more of us with RPAL as well the better since it creates a stronger voice within our community.

CFO called me and both references today, but not the wife. Do they always call the wife/common law partner? if so I suppose I should have her call in, just don't want to ask her to if she doesn't have to because she doesn't really support my choice for restricteds

For me it was only my references that I got to call in. My wife was never contacted. They could contact her however as the partner signs off on the application, they could see that as enough consent.

Same here, called the references and me but not the wife...

I had my references call in, but no contact was made to the wife. But then, her RPAL application and mine arrived in the same envelope.
