Shorten PAL Approval Times

My license has been issued and it's been in the mail for 9 business days. I expected it Tuesday at the latest (and it's Thursday as I make this post).

Don't forget that Canada Post is still way behind schedule. They "said" thery'd be back on track by last Monday (so I'm taking it to mean two Mondays from next Monday.)
I still have parcels and envelopes from about a month (and more) ago.

Heres my situation:

Mailed application AND stamped results from the Ontario CFO. Received and signed for in Miramichi June 3rd. This Monday was the end of the 45 day time frame thats given on the website. I called the 1-800 number and they said they were done with my application and that they sent it back to the CFO 2 weeks ago. I called the CFO, and left a message Tuesday AM asking if there was information missing, or if there was anything I could help them with. Waited until this afternoon for a response (they say 1 business day response), no response so I called back, and left another message (this time with reception, before reception forwarded me to an officer).

Sooo frustrating

Does any one have any advice?

The current number I am calling the Ontario CFO at is 705-329-5522. Is there another number I should use?

Called the CFO again this morning, got an answer and said that they would call me back again today as they havent had time to look at it. They called back this afternoon and said I was approved, and that I would be receiving the card in 2-3 weeks. :)

I have a feeling if I never called, I'd be waiting quite a bit longer.

Timeline:
April 16-17 - CFSC/CRFSC
April 18 - Exams
June 1 - Received stamped results from CFO
June 1 - Application mailed to Central Processing via Registered Mail (didn't know I could submit the application without stamped results at the time)
June 3 - Application received
July 22 - Application Approved

I am moving in 3 weeks, so hopefully I get it before then lol.

At this point, would I be able to call the 1-800 number to get my PAL number?

CFC will not give you your PAL #.

CFO can and might depending where you are and who you talk to.

If you're in Ontario, the CFO's number is posted a few posts up and that's who you would call to get your PAL # over the phone.

When finishing a transfer today CFC was giving me #### because I bought something without having the card in my hands. She then started CFO shouldn't give out the numbers on the phone. I said listen lady do your job and finish the transfer and let me worry about not having my card in hands.

So now with this week coming to an end it will be 4 weeks since I've mailed out my paper work for my pal and rpal. Still the website is giving me "We do not have any information that matches this data. If the data is correct please check your application status again at a later date." Is it possible they possibly miss spelled something? or is it possible it can actually take this long for them to get to my paper work and update the site? Am I over reacting or would it be best to call them?

Here's my timeline:
May 16th; application mailed.
May 26th; application received and in system.
June 22; called for interviews.
July 6; license issued.
July 11; license mailed
July 22; license received and in hand.

The best advice I have for dealing with everything is to just call the CFC on a damn near daily basis. If I hadn't called them, they wouldn't have known where to look for my faxed test results. If I hadn't called I'd be waiting for them to getting around to doing interviews.

I called last week and the cfc said everything is approved just waiting the 28 day period to be up. I just checked today (the 28th day) and the status has not changed to license issued. Is it actually issued on the 29th day or should I call to make sure all is good.

damn, guess I'm waiting even though it was signed for on the 27th but showed up on the site as being received on the 28th (unless it's easy to have that changed with a call).

Ok so now my interviews are done. I guess it goes to the Ontario office... Nothing left for me to do but wait for the 28th day I gues.

All you bastards getting threw :p

I just got off the phone with them and she said she's not able to find anything after I gave her all my info (seemed like she just typed it into the site like I have). She blamed the time on Canada Post strike, and told me that if your paying by credit card you'll usally see the transaction a day or two before the app shows online.

I guess it's back to the wonderful waiting game for me.... curses canada post~!

success (almost) Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)

Just got off the phone and have my number (she said a lot of people have been calling for it the last few days and couldn't figure out why). I asked a few questions and got some good info I thought I would share. It is legal for any gun shop to sell you a firearm with only your PAL number, if they have any issues just have the shop/person call up the CFO and they can verify it or see it on their online system. Also, for being stopped while transporting a non-restricted without a license, a peace officer can go by the PAL number. Police however can confiscate the firearm if you fail to produce your PAL (at their discression) for up to 15 days until you show your license.

exactly don't transport it until you have the card in your hand. do not open the package if you have to pick it up at the post office wait until you are home. they can't search mail in your car.
