anyone know if you need your actual license to buy ammo from Canadian Tire or Walmart? Just looking to get some cheap target load, gun shop didn't have any (got one box of 25 though)

Yeah you will need your license for Crappy tire. They record your info with each purchase here in Alliston ontario. At least the book is always locked up in the case. They just record your number and name. From what i understand it is a BS policy they put in effect for the police. Against our personal rights.

Thats what I figured, any legal issues with having a buddy purchase the ammo for me and then giving it to me? I don't think it's an issue as I have my PAL but just wanted to make sure. Otherwise I'll be buying some pricey ammo

timeline

well the wait is over...

Took both courses on APR 4/2011
Received test results on may 10
Overnighted application next day
Entered into system on May 28
Sent to CFO on July 27/2011
Finally got ahold of the CFO today and he issued me my license and number.

Here are some details for everyone. I was charged criminally several times as a young offender and once as an adult. I applied for my PAL and RPAL. I have not been charged in over 12 years. I had to talk to the CFO who was very nice and he asked me a couple of minor questions regarding my record. Other than that it was approved.
If i had not called the CFC and CFO several hundred times after the 45 days i would still be waiting.

Good luck to everyone.

Your record is as a rule irrelevant so long as it was over 5 yrs ago and you are not under a prohibition order.

hey guys, noob question, is it possible to get my PAL number after the 28 days waiting period over the phone from someone at CFC?

I called the Ontario CFO and got mine no problem

Just got off the phone and have my number (she said a lot of people have been calling for it the last few days and couldn't figure out why). I asked a few questions and got some good info I thought I would share. It is legal for any gun shop to sell you a firearm with only your PAL number, if they have any issues just have the shop/person call up the CFO and they can verify it or see it on their online system. Also, for being stopped while transporting a non-restricted without a license, a peace officer can go by the PAL number. Police however can confiscate the firearm if you fail to produce your PAL (at their discression) for up to 15 days until you show your license.

Hello guys is there any way to inquire about test results.......i did my rpal in april and still havent received my test result"..........thanks

And today is the 28th day. Booyah!

I'm not optimistic about seeing the damn thing this month though. Canada Post and their heel dragging.

I understand I can get my PAL# from the CFO if I call them. But am I allowed to buy stuff online with just that number? I mean... they don't ask me to scan in the card or anything.

Most annoying part is I'm moving at the end of the month so now I think I need to call the CFC and notify a change of address...

Oh, good. :)

The call with the CFO for the number was a bit surreal. When I said today was the 28th day of my waiting period, she actually asked "what waiting period". Uhm...

CFC was super helpful though. I got the mailing address changed so they'd send the card to my office 'cos who the hell knows when it'll show up. And they put in a change of address, effective Sep 1.

Make sure they did not change the address for your actual license though unless you intend to keep your guns at the office.
