Shorten PAL Approval Times

Make sure they did not change the address for your actual license though unless you intend to keep your guns at the office.

The CFO only changed the mailing address. I explained I was moving, and said it would be easier if the paperwork was just mailed to my office instead. So my home address stays the same until Sep 1 when they'll change it and I presume send me more paperwork. The guy at the CFC was thoroughly competent.

Double check everything they do as your paperwork arrives... they have been known to make stupid mistakes

Now I am stuck waiting on the BC office to deal with their "record paper volumes". I've had a transfer pending from the EE forever now, on July 25 they call to ask my reason for wanting a restricted firearm and then ask me to fax in my range membership, did that the same day. Phoned on the 29th to confirm and was told they were flooded with paper and hadn't seen my fax yet. On Aug 2 I faxed it again to be sure, phoned today Aug 5 and she said she had a paper stack in front of her that had 400 documents in it and she had no idea if my range card was in it or not, call again next week.

I thought my problem would be with the federal folks and getting the license, that was peanuts compared to getting this ATT issued.

File a complaint about the undue delay with the ombudsman.

Also membership is NOT required by the FA... they should not be asking for that at all as such is only "BS CFO policy". Point that out to them next time as well...

Yeah, correct me if I'm wrong but you can request an ATT for "every shooting range in [Province]" with the times between 0:00 and 23:59 and technically they have to honour that?

Though I doubt they would. I think this might be someone yanking my noob chain.

You can indeed... though the CFO's try very hard to justify not giving out such.. esp if you apply for a Canada wide ATT.. There is zero reason the basic ATT should not be for an entire province though as as bare minimum... and the ATTs alone are beyond moronic of course.

Times should be 0:00 to 0:00 as well not 23:59 since otherwise legally you would be leaving yourself with a small opening where it would not be valid.

Notice of Restraining Order: Ontario CFO

My status

:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Dates:
CFSC & CRFSC: June 11&12
Mailed application: June 20
Mailed course results: June 24 (next AM)
Status showed up on site: June 24
Reference checks: July 05
Transferred to CFO: July 07

Been calling CFO every 3-5 days to check on status nothing new other then today I called and a really nice lady there told me it will take 3-4 weeks more because they are waiting on background checks.

Is this normal? this seems crazy to me, 42 days already.....

42 days is nothing. I waited way longer. Something must of come up at the CFO when they were doing background checks. maybe someone with the same name has a criminal record.

I wonder if that's whats holding my ATT up, I sent in one of the ATT apps along with my range membership filled out to allow me access to all ranges, border crossings, gunsmiths etc. I must have annoyed somebody!

Interesting timings:

Mailed out my PAL non-restricted application on July 4.

Called in to check status a couple times, the last one being July 29. No record of my application arriving. Lady told me it had been long enough, must be lost in mail, so resend.

Checked website a few more times this week thinking it was hopeless. I know for certain it wasn't showing up on the website on August 3.

Today, August 5, it appears on the website. So, one month from date of mailing until any confirmation of receipt.

Website says it was received July 18.

Yikes.

Now, the question is, I just challenged and passed my restricted test this week. I was planning on re-sending the application as restricted this time. But, since they received the non-restricted application, what should I do? Just wait until I have my non-, then submit a new application and $80 to upgrade it restricted?

First mistake.. never send such by a non-traceable method.

#2.. try to do both at once.

#3... no.. prepare an app for an upgrade from PAL to RPAL... there will be nio added fee.. nor will there be a waiting period for that either.. the moment your PAL is listed as "issued" or once they have approved other than waiting period.

Then get the # from the CFO and then send in for the upgrade...

Keep the originals of your test results as well!!! Fax them in instead. even if it is after you send in your app :)

I did send a copy of my test results, rather than the original, so I was OK there.

Can I fax in the entire application? Now that they have my photo, it seems like a viable option to an outsider.

I love my name for background checks. My first and last names are pretty damn common. But my middle name? Pretty sure no one else has it. Makes my background checks pretty easy.

I just wish everyone had my experience with the license. After all the horror stories I've heard about delays in every possible step, I didn't experience any. I got my test results in weeks, my application was entered immediately, I got my interviews done fast, and the CFO did my background check within a week.

And all this was happening while my friend's RPAL application was getting scrutinized. It's disgusting.

Pal application

:mad:my application was sent on the 19 of july 2011 and i still cant see it on the rcmp's web site whats going on

It is a rpal does this make a differance

anyone know the time frame on how long it takes to go from the initial processing completed until a license has been issued for a PAL?

Have a read through this thread. Lots of people are posting up how long it takes to get what. If this is your first time getting your license, 28 days from it arriving is the quickest it can happen (for PAL this is usually the case unless there are issues)

So has anyone else had to do a phone interview for their PAL license? I just called to make sure they had all my information and was transfers for a phone interview. They asked the same questions as on the form but in a different way.
