Shorten PAL Approval Times

It's been two and a half weeks (since the site said mine has been issued/mailed) and I have still not recieved my license yet? Should I be calling? Does anyone know if basspro requires the actual ID card?

I already bought a shotgun locally but I want to pick up a .22 using a bass pro gift card I have but I don't want to waste my time driving out there (in the area visiting family) if I can't get it.

edit, just called Bass Pro. They will not even let you handle a firearm without showing your license first. Guess I'll just have to keep holding onto my giftcard.

edit #2, just called NB, the license was "issued" July 25th, printed Aug 3 and don't know when it was sent and it could have possibly been pulled for a random quality control check. Guess I'm not getting my .22 for a while (and never buying a firearm from Bass Pro again due to this and other rediculous policies)

NB did say to just get someone else to buy it then immediately transfer it to me but I don't know anyone in the area with a license.

weird that it was issued on 5th of july and only printed on august 3. they usually say if you don't receive it 2 weeks after it was issued to call in.

typo, fixed it to 25th of July. Called today (after the two weeks) and got the above answer with the comment "the website is pretty optimistic at 2 weeks"

Hey guys a coworker is applying for his pal/rpal and is concerned that they will deny him a licence because he has declared bankruptcy within the last 2 years. I told him I would ask on here to findout what the thoughts are. I find it impossable that they will deny him a licence because of a bankruptcy, what do you guys think ? Or can anyone relate to it.

PAL processing times

FYI my experience as an Australian applying for an R-PAL in Alberta:

Completed the application including a reference of good character from the Australian Federal Police along with test results issued immediately when completed at the Shooting Edge in Calgary 19 June.

Due to Canada Post strike, I couriered the application which was reveived in Miramichi on 22 June. From that date, 45 days is 8 August which the website stated was when I could expect to receive my PAL.

I called RCMP 11 July to "confirm that there are no outstanding requirements".
A very nice lady asked if I'd like to do my interview. I happily agreed.

I had my two referees call in and do their interviews on 13 July.

RCMP confirmed that the appication had been sent to Edmonton CFO for final approval 22 July.

I called Edmonton CFO to confirm no outstanding requirements. Another very nice lady checked that there werent and pproved my PAL on the spot.

PAL received in the post today, 9 August - 46 days or 1 day more than the 45 days stated on the website. Given it was a public holiday Monday last week, I think RCMP has done a great job of meeting their stated deadline.

Thanks to this sticky, this forum helped RCMP too!

Now, for some shopping!

Thanks!

Welcome aboard

So got a phone call today for a interview....

Reason I couldn't see anything on the site is because I spelled my last name "Labbe" where they put it as "Labbé" the "é" was the problem DOH!

Ohh well, everything is on board now and moving forward, got my file number.

For the record, when I call from SK at 4:15pm or 4:40pm local, it says they are closed. Me thinks a programmer failed his Canadian time zones course.

License showed up today! (application received 25 July and issued right away after the 28 day period). Guess I can get my gun from Bass Pro now.

Thank you all. By following the instruction, I got my online status changed to "license issued" on the 29th day. Called Ontario CFO, a nice lady told me it was issued on 29th July; however, she refused to tell me my PAL number. I guess I just have to wait a couple of weeks for that piece of plastic .

Are you sure you called cfo not the cfc? I called the other day and got mine no problem. I would call back and make sure its the number from a few pages back. The lady that helped me said a lot of people were calling for numbers and she was happy to help me out and give it to me.

Good luck

Yes, I think so. I didn't check the number from a few pages back. Instead, I googled Ontario CFO and got the number from this:

http://haldimand.cioc.ca/record/SIM1075

Intersection Andrew and Colborne Sts
Office Phone 705-329-5522
Toll Free Phone 1-800-731-4000 Ext 7503
Fax 705-329-5623
E-Mail CFO.Ontario@ontario.ca
Website www.cfc.gc.ca

And to save some pennies, I called the toll free ext. The lady who picked up the phone confirmed it was Ontario CFO. Did I call the wrong number?

The 1-800 number is the CFC and they transfer you to the Ont. CFO.
Just like every other aspect of the process, if you don't get what you need, call them again and see if someone else will give you your number.

Thanks a million, calalta! I called 705-329-5524. This time , the very nice lady told me my number. She didn't ask reason and file number, just name and DOB and she was able to check my number then. For those of you want to check numbers, call 705-329-5524 will give you a good chance I think.
