Shorten PAL Approval Times

Must be an automated system that updates status because as of 12:00am, Feb. 28, 2012:

the "Current Status" went from "Your application has completed initial processing..."

to:

"Your application has been processed and your license has been issued. If you have not received your license within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)"

For the record:

"Application Received on: 2012/01/31"

Exactly 28 days.

I'd just like to thank the Academy....

when did you do your interviews?

Good stuff. Did my test on the 19th of January, CFC received my application on the 27th of January, CFO still has my test results. :(

Got my interview done, and I must say, for the first time the person I encountered was VERY polite and helpful, and the woman conducting the interview was very nice as well.

as for the interview itself, it went like:

no, no, no, no never, definitely not, no no, no, great thanks.

Application Received on: 2012/02/13

Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.

Thats good to see, I was getting worried. It hadnt shown up online in 2+ weeks.

Yes or No questions, eh? I wonder if it's the same for references or if they try to trick them up and ask very open ended questions?

I am not concerned about getting in trouble or anything like that, I just hope my references aren't 'interrogated' by the RCMP...

Yes or no, very straight forward. Similar to the one you fill out on the PAL application. Sometimes they get going very fast, and you may need them to repeat.

Curious, when you folks have been called by the fine people in Marimichi, did anyone notice the number they were calling from?

I have a serious telemarketer problem here and would hate to miss them thinking they were hawking me some garbage.

Was it 506 or 1-800, etc?

***** NOTICE TO ALL ONTARIO PAL APPLICANTS *****

Today I phoned the CFO, asked to be transferred to the Ontario CFC because they'd had my application for "Final processing" for approx a 3-4 weeks. I phoned, after being on hold for 20 mins a lady picked up and I asked the status of my application, she went on to explain how a "backlog" of applications has the process slowed down, YET in the time i was on the phone, she reviewed and issued my license... essentially letting me skip the line.

SO IF YOU ARE IN FINAL PROCESSING IN ONTARIO, CALL THEM NOW. I should've called a long time ago, only if i'd known it's let me line-skip.

PAL Timeline:
October 30/31st- Completed PAL/ Hunters Course
December 11th- Received my PAL official results back from CFO
December 11th- Mailed (with tracking and signature) my results and form to CFO
December 14th- Application confirmed to have arrived in New Brunswick at CFO
February 28th- License Issued

Approx total time from Course to PAL being issued: 110 days

Good lord! 110 days?! My friend's cousin took the PAL course last mid-Sept and only got his lic two wks ago! I told her that her cousin should call the CFO and she said the CFO's number was on his speed dial and nothing sped it up. I told her it shouldn't take longer than 28days according to CGN and we have a bet going for my RPAL that it's gonna take longer than 2mts.

I don't have a cell phone, so I had my wife call the Ont CFO today, to see if they had mailed my test results. Nope, sorry, we can't give you that information. Of course they turn off their answering machines after 5 pm, so I can't talk to someone (I get off work at 5) and I can't leave a message. I have no place to address grievances with the system. Unreal.

YAY finally my app has appeared online! The app was received on Mon Feb 13, and arrived today on Feb 28. So from seeing other dates, after two weeks the app should appear online on that week +- 4 days.

How long should I wait before calling in to see if anything is missing?

If you looked at the dates, he waited for the safety results to arrive first. This throws a whole month onto your wait time. As the original guide says, just send the app, and when they arrive, fax in the results.

Yea, I decided to just wait for my app... i wanted to minimize the amount of times the monkeys at the CFO could screwup and make my wait longer.
