I brainfarted the question about gauge size for shot. It's not what you know, it's how you say it. That brass one almost got me as brass=ammunition is such a common thing.

I got distracted by a girl in the pistol range through the window and bungled writing my birthday on the form, that was the only other spot I really messed up.

Just fax the results in, and you do NOT have to followup with mailing the originals.

If you do decide to mail in your test results, just pick one and send it, keep the other set for your files.

Glad I'm reading this ahead of time :)

Question, they don't want copies just originals, can any of the signatures be copies (via email or fax) or is that a no-no?
I've moved in the past year and all my references are in Ontario (I'm in Alberta)
The way I see it I should fill out everything I can then mail my pages to my references then have them mail in the forms once they're done.
Filling them out and sending by email would be faster but I don't want to mess anything up.

Many have reported sending in their application and it never getting there. If spend $15 and get a tracking number, you'll be sure that it did, infact, arrive. It'll also arrive much sooner esp. if you're mailing from the Western provinces.

Was just a suggestion though.
 
Update from Feb 27 posting, just got off the phone with Miramichi. They haven't listed the application yet and can't even tell me if they received it!
Kinda CONFUSED about one comment from them, I know about the 28 day waiting period but she was telling me it can take up to 60 days to process. Does anyone know the process well enough to tell me?
I filed for an NRPAL and I live in Ontario.
2/28 mailed NRPAL application
3/23 update: still not even shown online.
3/26 update: :dancingbanana: HOOOAHHH shown as "in process" Will make arrangements to have references call in now that I can give them a reference #.
4/14 update: Application Received on: 2012/03/05
"Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date."
The woman I spoke with in Miramichi explained that they are now counting the 28 day waiting period separately from the processing time (45 days). If that's correct I should expect to have my NRPAL by mid-May.

Feb 21: Mailed results and application
Feb 27: Application received
Mar 13: Application showed up online
Mar 21: Called in for interview
Mar 22: First reference called in
Mar 26: Second reference called in
??? ??: Profit

Addendum:
Mar 26: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)

28 days from when they received it. Yeah baby!

Hopefully it arrives in time for the Calgary gun show :D

I didn't and it just showed up as in process today....33 days after I sent it.

Spend the extra $$ if you want your PAL in a reasonable amount of time.

Anyway.....I'm getting geeked now!! It's in process!!

Going to a gun show next weekend. Would have been nice to have it.

Take a look at your online application. I'm willing to bet that it shows that your application was received about a week after you mailed it in. Those additional days (21 days is typical) are to make it's way through their paper handling process, scanned, and have your application validated (i.e. did you include and sign your picture, etc.). Once your application has been validated it is visible to you on their online system. If they found any errors or missing information, it will say that they sent you a letter in the mail requesting some additional information (such as a missing picture).

Sending it express only saves you about 3 or 4 days maximum.

The benefits of sending it registered is knowing when they received it, and the peace of mind that it got there.

I hope that clears things up for everyone.

I know it's tough waiting through the process, because I went through the same anxiety myself.

Holy, those dates other than when you initially mailed it (Feb 23 for me) and when you finished your courses (Feb 19) are identical to mine. My second reference called in this afternoon and after just checking, the web site said my license has been issued, too! so when's the Calgary gun show?

Is this really a government organization? They do indeed seem to be fairly efficient...

That is my case anyway - passed PAL, applied for it, then challenged and passed RPAL test and now waiting for the stamped RPAL results and PAL license, all to arrive almost at the same time (according to my calculations) some time next week or so.

sorry what I meant was I did my PAL course on January 7th and then there wasn't an RPAL course available until February 18th and because I didn't do my RPAL at the same time I needed my PAL number so i didn't have to pay another $20 for the RPAL license... hope that made sense
 
Well my first reference called in. My second one "says" he called in, but I think he said it to shut me up for pestering him. The CFC/RCMP called my other reference by mistake (they wanted to call the other guy), so I think he was lieing to me :(. Soooo close!

Huh, just got back with him and he did do his interview. Wonder what that was all about then.

Haha that's crazy! The Calgary gun show is April 6th and 7th. You coming down? So with any luck our licenses will be printed and shipped this Friday and we get it right before the following weekend.
 
If it's mailed tomorrow, I don't see any reason it shouldn't be here by then. But then we have to rely on another government "organization" that often seems less so. Regardless if it shows up in time, I'll likely try to make it down to Stampede City. If for no other reason, a chocolate banana shake from Peter's almost makes the trip worth it... :)
 
Update:
March 4th - Completed course and tests
March 5th - Shipped documents via Xpresspost
March 7th - Candada Post shows as delivered (but it's a Wednesday)
March 27th - Application shows up online as Received March 8th

I will not have mine in time for the gun show, but I knew that when I sent it in, so oh well.
