Shorten PAL Approval Times

On a positive note, I got my RPAL license today!

I hope nobody thinks I'm gloating or anything, but it took a grand total of 40 days from when I dropped off my application at the post office to when my license showed up in my mail box.

Thanks CGN for the helpful tips to speed up the process for me.

Update:
March 4th - Completed course and tests
March 5th - Shipped documents via Xpresspost
March 7th - Candada Post shows as delivered (but it's a Wednesday)
March 27th - Application shows up online as Received March 8th

So a week tomorrow since the app showed up online, and I called yesterday and they said they still weren't ready to do my phone interview yet. She said they would call me when they were ready to do the interview and it "didn't matter" since I was still within the waiting period anyway. I told her that the waiting period expires in 2 days and she didn't have an answer for that.

Feb 12: Completed PAL/RPAL course and exam
Feb 21: Mailed results and application
Feb 27: Application received
Mar 13: Application showed up online
Mar 21: Called in for interview
Mar 22: First reference called in
Mar 26: Second reference called in and application approved
Apr 3: RPAL arrived in mail

:D

That's ok....you can gloat.

I know I will ...... if I ever get it!

finally got my phone interview done today, and one of my references called in as well. So because of the office being closed wednesdays my second reference can't call in until thursday now is that correct?

I got my MPOL just a few weeks after they received it, but we're still waiting on my father's PAL. They received it on November 4th, and we have called once every two or three weeks since then. They have been no help at all. Any recommendations as to how we could hurry this along? Thanks!

Here's my time table:

February 20 to 23; take Non restricted and restricted in same course
February 23; Take both practical tests and get results immediately when finished
February 27; complete application and send via regular Canada Post mail
March 2; application received CFC
March 23; appeared online
April 3; Had my phone interview, at least one reference had phone interview (not sure about other). They called me at work and one of my references was there as well.
April 4; Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)

That's 33 days and only 23 work days after receiving. i don't know if it makes a difference, but I already had my POL for 10 years.

PS: My wife also took the course at the same time and her application was received at the same time, but she had her interview on March 29. Her status still shows :Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.

hey NS_Kan, you inspired me to try again.
I also mailed my app on Feb 27....Mar 3 received.....Mar 23 appeared online! I've heard nothing since.
So I called today and heard 'We are too busy to answer your call at all. Try again another time'
They didn't even put me on hold!

I think you burned them out!!!

Enjoy the sport!

Just keeping people updated with my experience of getting my PAL. I received, and faxed my stamped grades today. So my timeline thus far is:

Feb 23: PAL exam completed
Feb 24: Mailed application
Feb 27: Application received
Mar 13: Application online
April 4: Stamped grades received, and faxed.
April ?: PAL in hand

Hi guys first post here, excuse the name its the first thing that came to mind.
Now I called the CFO and she had told me I was still in my 28 day wait period, Alberta here
Finished April 3rd but heres my problem

Application Received on: 2012/02/20

Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.

I Thought that this 28 day wait period was from when your application was received?

Am I right out of er or, should I call them back.. whats your advice CGN aside from
A better screen name!

Also since the date on the top there its been 44 days as of today total.

EDIT: my interveiws went perfectly fine and im applying for both PAL and RPAL

Last I checked, which was about two weeks ago, the law was that the 28 day period starts when your application arrives in the hands of the CFC and not when they decide to pull it from the pile and dust it off and start work on it. A legal statute I do believe. It's one of the reasons why it's advisable to send registered mail and to pay by credit card or other method you can track and verify, so that when it arrives and they take your money you can call and remind them that it means they're now already processing the application.

I say that you should call them. If you have a definite date they received it, such as a postal tracking number, or billing to your credit card, you can mention that date and get them to verify it. Be polite, but as of now there's no legal reason why the wheels are not spinning. At least that's assuming something genuine hasn't come up, like someone with the same name who has a criminal record, or a previous tenant who's still registered as living at your address and mucking things up, etc.

I have no criminal record, no tenants that could mess it up either.
Although I did send it registerd mail I have no idea where I put that damned receipt
Paid by money order also, I'm
Going to call them tomorrow thanks for the advice will keep updates !

Quick question as I am a little confused.. :( Should I call once my application is online, or call before? It'll be two weeks tomorrow since they received my app. It's just a non-restricted application. Thanks guys!!

It will not necessarily show up online after 2 weeks. Mine is almost 3 weeks and nothing online yet. I am paying the fee by credit card and that has not been billed yet. I believe once your credit card is billed, it should appear online shortly after.

So called in after my friend recalled the CFC (after they lost his interview info). It's at the CFO now! How much longer does it usually take for Ontario people?

Feb 26: Mailed application
Feb 29: Application received
Mar 18: Application online
Mar 26: References called in
Mar 29: PAL/R Approved
April 5: PAL/R Recieved
