Shorten PAL Approval Times

I think te answer to the above has been updated on page one. Call in and ask where it stands progress wise. I just sent my full rpal and pal forms via registered mail today. Let the games begin, and the wait of course.

i'm in the process of upgrading to rpal. Took 3ish weeks to get back from cfo. I sent in my application may 14 via registered mail. I called today and cfc was not much help (online status check says license issued last summer which was for my pal). they told me minimum 4 weeks before it even shows up online as received.

been almost 4 weeks still waiting for something to show online

:( .

This is what I saw when I checked the status of my application today - the 30th of May:

"Application Received on: 2012/03/12

Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number."

It was a big surprise because when I checked it yesterday (the 29th) it still said "being processed"

So based on the the date they recieved my application - it took 79 days, a couple of factors that affected it were:

1. RCMP in Miramichi NB, began the process as soon as they got my application form - but had to send me a letter stating it lacked a document which was my exam results with the CFO's stamp.

2. The CFO took awhile to send me my copy of my exam with their stamp (I dont know why), but when I finaly got it in the first week of May, I immediately faxed a copy to the RCMP.

3. Two weeks later I called the RCMP which confirmed reciept of the faxed copy, BUT still cannot process it because the faxed copy did not clearly showed the stamp! (RATS!!!)

4. I finaly mailed the hard copy of my exam (which is what I should have done in the first place no thanks to my fax machine!) on the third week of May, which led to getting the confirmation message in the RCMP website above.

Lessons Learned:

1. Maybe wait for the CFO to mail back that stamped exam copy to you before you send your application form (although the CFO might take awhile to send it to you).

2. Never use the damn fax machine!!!

3. Keep checking the staus online and give them a call at least every 2-3 weeks for follow up (be nice to them too)

CHEERS!!!

Lol I just called to check status and was told 28 day waiting period started when CFO of Ontario recieved application to give it final approval.....WTF?

That is staggeringly wrong on their part. 28 days starts when the CFC recieves the application. Clearly stated in the law last I checked.

My Ontario Timeline:

April 7th, took class and passed exam.
April 10th I assume the test results were sent to the Ontario CFO.
May 1st sent in my app registered mail
May 3rd shows up in NB
May 21 Application shows up online, saying missing info (exam results)
May 21 results come back and are faxed to NB status changed to
"Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date."
May 25 my credit Card is charged.

So looks like my 28 days are almost up and I hope to have the licence is a week or two!

I highly recommend sending in your application ahead of your results if you live in Ontario.

When it's been sent to the CFO for approval is there anything you can do, or do you just have to wait? (pal/rpal)

I have a friend that has been waiting six weeks since it was forwarded to the CFO in Ontario, and still shows "in progress".

App was received, and signed for beginning of March.

Call the CFO and inquire every other day. Once should be enough. Lots of people here say once and they magically find your application and approve it over the phone.

Dont know why I didn't call the CFO earlier!! Just got off the phone and checked the website and immediately( literally like 3 seconds after i got offthe phone)it was...

Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)

Was like 62 days or so..

I keep telling people they will sit on your file. it doesnt hurt to call in and check up on it. i have already stated it on this thread probably many times. my app was 5 weeks from dropped in box to my calling in on the 25th and having some slightly rude woman telling me it is still in process and my asking if my picture was now finally scanned into the system/file whatever she said it was i asked for her name spelling and all. said thank you goodbye, hung up and checked my status again and it had turned to finished processing and issued.... too much of a coincidence for me....

Yay

With
Test april 17 and 18.

April 20 sent regular mail.

Entered April 27.

Couldn't read my hand writing and spelled my name.

So nothing has happened in the system.

Waited for them to fix spelling mistake. Then it can continue.

May 17 CC charged

May 25 get all 3 interviews done.

May 28 call and check and find out it has to go to the alberta CFO forv2 weeks.

May 30 call about kids app. Then ask about mine. My pictures there... My references check out . Hits a few buttons..... Your application has automatically been approved for pal and rpal. I should have it in 2 weeks!!!!

Yay

give them a week then call 18007314000 and ask about it.should only take a week or 2 max for the cfo to do the check. a week after interviews were done and it was completed and issued. so it goes -mail app, wait wait wait check the site it should appear online after 2-3 weeks, usually saying "finished initial processing and in progress" and it will also tell you the "received date" this is the date they use for your 28 day waiting period, mine took 4 weeks until it was ready for interviews, interviews went fast in 2 days had all of them done, from there it goes to the cfo and it took a week there for it to be ok'd, then my online status change to completed and issued and they say 2 weeks to get your license. so a grand total of 8 weeks from me dropping it in the box (snail mail) to the license in hand. i called in at least once a week some times twice. made sure my references called in. if i hadn't who knows how long it could take 6 months or more....
I like the way you think. If you want it done you have to help the process. I'm doing the same as you. Every step that gets completed I wait a few days, then call in to check status, then they start the next step, then I wait a few more days and call in again, and they start the next step. Otherwise, you're absolutely correct. Whoever calls in get theirs processed while the others get pushed back in the queue. LOL

Apr 15 - Tests passed

Apr 28 - App sent

May 3 - Delivery signed for at Miramichi

May 15 - Contacted Ontario CFO for an update, told that they're processing tests from the week of the 18th, so I should have mine back within a week or two

May 18 - Received stamped tests in the mail (stamped May 15)

May 22 - faxed and emailed tests, got email back saying thanks and telling me they haven't started mine yet

May 24 - APP ONLINE! Current Status: You have been or will soon be contacted about your application.

May 26 - checked CC, was charged on the 24th, so close I want to gnaw my arm

May 29 - received the fax I sent May 22nd in the mail with a letter saying the application isn't in progress yet ... this has to be a new low for bureaucracy: instead of slipping the papers together with what they have, they printed a letter and mailed the fax back to me. The woman who got my email with the scans of the tests found my app and added the printouts to it. At least now I know how long the license will take to reach me. fml

May 31 - interviews. I did mine and was about to tell my references to call when one told me he just did his. I was taking a dump when they called and our office has poor reception there. Got a text about a new voicemail. Of all the times they could have called... flawless. For anyone wondering, in the interview they ask you why you want a gun, how you know your references and for how long, and re-ask you the yes/no questions from the application about being a criminal, psycho, divorced and unemployed.

... to be continued

My friend called in today, and was transferred to the CFO. Apparently his app was still sitting in the general queue for Ontario, and not assigned to anyone.

CFO asked a few general questions, and said he would take care of it later in the afternoon. Lo, and behold a few hours later license issued.

Never hurts to call, and inquire.

those ladies at the cpc have had 4 days to print my rpal and i call today expecting them to say it is in the mail and she tells me they haven't printed it yet lol.... she said maybe printed in another 3 days.....gahhhhh.
