Shorten PAL Approval Times

My status is currently "Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date. " so how long is the wait till the phone interview with me and my references? And is is actually a lot faster to call in myself?

read some earlier posts calling can speed it up a bit simply by knowing when you can call in to interview and get your references to do the same. check up once a week. i was checking at the beginning and end of the week.

Read through some of the thread, there's a ton of examples of time lines with app received, in progress, references called in, lic issued etc...

Call in. Don't wait to be called, this includes your refs.

give them a week then call on a monday then call again on friday and so on until it is issued ;)

Just spoke to BC CFO's office, lady told me there well backed up & are taking about a month to process applications..... also need a copy of my Canadian citizenship certificate faxing to them as I immigrated to Canada in '07....more waiting... :( but at least they get all the bits of paper they need :)

Been almost 6 months since I sent it in...

Apr 15 - Tests passed

Apr 28 - App sent

May 3 - Delivery signed for at Miramichi

May 15 - Contacted Ontario CFO for an update, told that they're processing tests from the week of the 18th, so I should have mine back within a week or two

May 18 - Received stamped tests in the mail (stamped May 15)

May 22 - faxed and emailed tests, got email back saying thanks and telling me they haven't started mine yet

May 24 - APP ONLINE! Current Status: You have been or will soon be contacted about your application.

May 26 - checked CC, was charged on the 24th, so close I want to gnaw my arm

May 29 - received the fax I sent May 22nd in the mail with a letter saying the application isn't in progress yet ... this has to be a new low for bureaucracy: instead of slipping the papers together with what they have, they printed a letter and mailed the fax back to me. The woman who got my email with the scans of the tests found my app and added the printouts to it. At least now I know how long the license will take to reach me. fml

May 31 - interviews. I did mine and was about to tell my references to call when one told me he just did his. I was taking a dump when they called and our office has poor reception there. Got a text about a new voicemail. Of all the times they could have called... flawless. For anyone wondering, in the interview they ask you why you want a gun, how you know your references and for how long, and re-ask you the yes/no questions from the application about being a criminal, psycho, divorced and unemployed.

June 1st - called at 11AM, picture not scanned. Called at 4:30, "Yes, I can see here it is. Hold on I'll click some buttons here, sometimes it issues on the spot, sometimes it goes to CFO for approval... your license has been issued, should go out today or Monday". Website says license issued!!!

Thanks a million calalta, saved me at least a month, probably more!

Call the BC CFO office, seriously. call the CFC 1-800 number and use the extension #9530 which will put you directly to the BC CFO office. The CFO had my app for 3 weeks and I called them and they approved it over the phone. I just called and asked the status of my application and the guy on the phone told me to hang on a minute. When he came back he said it was approved and I should have it in 10 days.!

Calling in and inquiring about your app could be all the difference because they will just sit on your app.

Something went very wrong...

May 14 - application recieved
June 1 - Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress.

I guess this means there was no information missing and its interview time? Since it was only recieved a couple of weeks ago, probably good to just wait a bit until the 28 days is up before calling in?

Excited now!!!

While you're being a nice guy and waiting everybody else on this thread is calling in to do their interviews. LOL

You might want to call in first thing Monday morning and ask the status of your application. I'd say, sat there fore 2wks. with no progress at all because you didn't call to help get it further along in the endless bureaucracy of silliness.

They have had mine for 3 weeks now and nothing has been put online when i go to check my status it says there is no match to my info in the data base. I have called to check the status and was told that they can't give me any information till it has been entered in the system to keep checking online and once it is on there to call back and see if there is any problems with my application. Is this normal to take 3 weeks or more to be put online?

This happened to me. They spelled my name wrong as they could not read my writing. A lady found it by only searching using my birthday!

Ha! Im certainly no nice guy! Actually what I meant was, since my application showed up online as "in progress" around 2 weeks after they recieved it, I might want to wait before calling in. I need to wait out the 28 days anyways, and I think that the fact that its in progress means that I didnt miss anything on my app?

If I was to call in and get interviews done now, nothing happens until the 28 days anyhow and when the 28 days is up it might get missed? Might be better to wait until the 28th day and call in and then it could be approved.

I also may be missing something here...

Better to call now. In progress is when they discover missing info etc. I sent mine registered mail, they received on may 10th, was listed as in progress online on the 22nd, I called on the 23rd, asked if there was anything missing, the lady looked at my app, said no, it looked perfect, asked if I would like to do my interview, then said "oh, it's just for a regular PAL, never mind." She then told me that it could take 2-3 weeks after they mail it to get to me, but to call them on the 6th if the status hadn't changed. Afriend who applied 2 weeks before me was all excited at seeing "in progress, a week later when he called, he was told there was missing info.

Sent my application in on the 16th of may, still waiting. I called a few times the lady said it should show up in 3 weeks prior to it being sent, so she told me to call back in a week or so. I only did my PAL, does it generally take less time than the RPAL to process? Is there still an interview with just the PAL? I've read previous posting saying there were no interviews at all.
